The TCU coach, Sonny Dykes, knows how to work the portal. He did that when he was the coach at SMU, which led to winning. He has done the same at TCU. I haven't been able to find exactly how many players he picked up from the portal while at TCU, but it does appear that some key players joined the team that way.
As has been discussed many times on this board, the Vandy admissions office is an obstacle (rightly or wrongly, depending upon your point of view) to our coaches getting more than a handful of players via the portal.

5-7 in 2023. And I don't think that's bad. Consolidating the gains made in 2022 (ie two conference wins) would be ok, considering that regression would be as likely as progression from that. I don't mind two 5-7 seasons as CCL's recruits come to be fully in place.

Question - Why did Dykes leave SMU for TCU? Was it money, or something else?

Money and resources. He has a lot more of both at TCU.

And it paid off for him, the program & the university. I don't think anywhere near a majority of VU's movers & shakers realize how valuable this type of exposure is. I am not- and would never- say "sell our soul for athletic success", but it can be done without sacrificing their principles.
