Is Wake's stadium a bandbox?
How many have they hit out today? The one kid has 70, a new ACC record.
Not sure how many of those would leave the yard in Omaha.

Center field is 400', left center is 370', right center is 367'. So, it's a little bigger than Lindsey Nelson, but not much.
Also...the ball is juiced.

I thought our friend, Beck, might be supplying the bats.AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 6:49 pm Center field is 400', left center is 370', right center is 367'. So, it's a little bigger than Lindsey Nelson, but not much.

Always hopeful; rarely optimistic.

Re: Is Wake's stadium a bandbox?
Two ways to look at this besides the juiced ball....
A) Every starter but one for Wake hits in the .300's
B) The top two guys combined for 54 dingers and counting this season (doesn't sound normal)
So, Wake had 9 homers in the game, one guy had three by himself.

Auric, I trust and respect your commentary very much, and I haven't seen even one pitch of a Wake Forest game this year. What's the source for the juiced ball comment?AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 6:49 pm Center field is 400', left center is 370', right center is 367'. Oh, it's not directed specifically at Wake, for sure. But the ball is flying out of college ballparks at an historic rate. According to this story, as of mid-May the number of HRs was 2.25 per game, the highest-ever rate: https://www.axios.com/2023/05/18/colleg ... ecord-pace. In 2019, the rate was 1.46/game.Levon wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 8:57 amAuric, I trust and respect your commentary very much, and I haven't seen even one pitch of a Wake Forest game this year. As the story notes, some of this surge in power is likely due to the number of experienced players still in college due to the extra Covid year of eligibility. (Wake is an especially older, experienced team.) But this just seems ridiculous.
Re: Is Wake's stadium a bandbox?
Wow! I knew HR numbers were up, but not so dramatically. And yes, older, more experienced players would logically contribute to the increase, but not to that extent, especially as there are older more experienced pitchers as well. Juiced balls certainly make sense. I suspect the drastically shrunken strike zone plays a huge role as well; more pitches in the middle of the zone means more hard hit balls. Thanks for the explanation.AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 9:41 amOh, it's not directed specifically at Wake, for sure. But the ball is flying out of college ballparks at an historic rate. Must not have juiced our balls enough …
… because despite the 42-20 W-L record and scoring 50% more runs than our opponents, Vanderbilt only won the home run derby 76-74.

Some of our pitchers were too susceptible to giving up the gopher ball.Versus75 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 4:28 pm … because despite the 42-20 W-L record and scoring 50% more runs than our opponents, Vanderbilt only won the home run derby 76-74.
