Interesting! Lacrosse athlete from Illinois commits as PWO as Vanderbilt

Post by BrentVU »

Vandy under Clark Lea has had some preferred walk-ons with interesting, outside-the-box backgrounds... last year recall, Vandy had 31-year-old Army veteran Tommy Smith on the team as a safety...

Now, get this! Richie Hoskins, a 2-sport star from Lake Forest, Illinois, (football and lacrosse) has announced a commitment to Vanderbilt for next year... and it won't be to play lacrosse, because Vandy doesn't have a men's team.

I haven't been able to figure out where he's transferring FROM yet... he graduated from high school in 2021. But here's a story about him from that year... he played quarterback and cornerback at Lake Forest and is evidently an incredible athlete.

Should make an interesting story next year for Aria Gerson or someone.

Here's his tweet:

OK, he played football last year for Middlebury College in Vermont, which is NCAA Division III.

Jared Bernhardt, the 2021 Tewaaraton Trophy (the lacrosse equivalent of the Heisman) winner, was the starting QB on Ferris State's DII National Championship Team this fall. He just signed as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons. He is a great athlete and may make a NFL roster as a WR or kick returner.
He was a starter on Maryland's 2017 National Championship team, started every year of his lacrosse career at Maryland and set several scoring and points records.
Maryland lost by one goal to UVA in the 2021 National Championship game on Memorial Day, Maryland's only loss last season.
How many people have won two national championships in two different sports and at two different schools?
How many people have played in two national championships in different sports, at two different schools in the same calendar year?
