Don’t look now, but UT lost game 1 of today’s double header with Mizzou, guaranteeing a loss in the series.
BUT, Mizzou is working on the sweep up 6-1 in the bottom of the 5th.
You think the Vawls will still be ranked #2 this week?

It's ut, not UT.

True. Or, more accurately, uut.

Maybe UUT is being required to use regulation bats this year. I don't know how to account for their apparent pitching woes.

But all the ut fans last year said that as long as Vitello was the coach they’d be winning SEC and CWS championships!

In fact a caller into Jared Stillman’s show last year said that ut would always sweep Vanderbilt like they did last year. Stillman argued with him but to no avail.

The media is so in love with ut. They haven’t done anything to deserve being ranked No. 2 in the nation yet they are. They lost to Grand Canyon State and Boston College earlier this year. They haven’t beaten a Top 25 team yet.

Their basketball team was overrated most of the season too.

I understand that SEC has instituted a new rule this year requiring bats to be inspected/tested before each conference game. Could that be cause of Vols’ sudden lack of offense?

Forgot to have their batsmith "winterize" those bats or could it be the curse of having Ethan Smith transfer out of the program?

Stillman would lose an argument with himself.

While sheep references are always appropriate with respect to our friends in orange, I’ve always spelled it yoo tee. You say to-may-to, I say to-mah-to. 😀

The rule has been in place since 2020. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2019/7/22/pro ... place.aspx

Here is a good article that discusses what happened last year during the VU - UTK game and the tampered bat. What I learned later is that the confiscated bat was tested before it was returned to UTK and there was no way it would have passed the original inspection. It failed the compression test by a big margin.
https://southeastern14.com/baseball/the ... -to-fix-it

Since that game, the UTK scoring output dropped considerably and their ability to get that "big" hit when they needed it disappeared. It is hard to imagine UTK or other teams hitting a home run and the opposing catcher not first inspecting the bat for a sticker before it is picked up by another UTK player or coach and rushed to the dugout.

Another thing about the bat testing, is that teams now know what the limits are and can modify them so that they stay just below those limits. Or keep using a composite fiber barreled bat until it no longer passes, because each time that the bat hits a ball, the induced micro-fractures increases the trampoline effect. Watch as the year goes along and you will start to see well-worn bats in use.
