Put Lunardi out of a job …

Post by Versus75 »

… and just let every team into the tournament.

It’s been 50 years since only conference champions and a handful of top independent teams were in the NCAAT. At this point it’s crazy to go to all this trouble narrowing the field.

Expand the tournament by one more week.

Some teams are ineligible. Others may choose to opt out. Have about 50 play-in games on Tuesday and Wednesday at the locations of the next round.

The remaining 256 teams are whittled to 64 in two games.

And then the tournament continues as usual.

Stop making good mid-major conferences be 1-bid only ever year.

Example:
Toledo is 25-6
Kent St. is 25-6

But what if Akron or Ball State or Ohio pulls a big upset in Cleveland at the MAC tournament? And even if they don't, if Toledo and Kent play each other in the final game, they both deserve to go.

I like the idea of a massive play-in night but it would make picking brackets really complicated and NCAA bracket pools are the biggest gambling event there is every year. People who don't even watch sports play their office bracket pool, to fit in or whatever. Then they actually keep up with how they are doing.

Add Drake vs Bradley to that Toledo vs Kent scenario...they each have 25 or 26 wins...playing each other on TV right now to see who ends up in the NIT.

Congrats to Drake...about to punch their big dance ticket while Bradley will get an auto-bid to the NIT.
