Well, Birmingham has spoken........

$250,000 more donation to the post-grad scholarship fund will be made by Vanderbilt University to the SEC home office in the coming days due to storming the court.

Reasonable decision. VU students should be smarter than that.

They should cap it at ticket proceeds from that game. Quarter mil is ridiculous.

Ticket proceeds from the UUT game (attendance 10,483) were more than $250,000.

Well, we knew this was coming.

Reason number 18 why Vanderbilt can't have good sporting teams.

Every time they win a big SEC game, students rush the court and the school gets fined $250k.

More ridiculous was fining Vandy for "rushing" the field after beating Florida.

So that's a half million windfall that the commissioner can use to improve officiating in basketball and football?

Identify the students who rushed the court and make each pay an equal amount of the fine before they can graduate or receive their transcripts. If they are so glib about the rule being broken then make them pay the fine they caused!

I’ve said this before:

If rushing the court or field is such a dangerous thing, then the NCAA should ban it for all institutions.

If it’s not so bad — say, far fewer injuries occur in this manner than in playing the games — then the SEC should lift the ban and let our fans have fun just like the other teams.

Yes, similar to unpaid parking tickets. Put a hold on their account. They can’t register for summer and fall classes until they pay the fine. 😆

Let me also point out there were non-students rushing the court Wednesday. And the field in November.

UT fans (who were mocking Vanderbilt fans on Twitter for rushing the court after beating them, I guess they are saying beating them isn’t that big a deal so fans shouldn’t be excited about beating them) not only rushed the field after beating Alabama during football, they destroyed the goalposts and threw them in the river. I think Vanderbilt fans acted much better than that.

I think the fine is too high given that the school made an announcement and also had security. The only step left is tear gas, I guess.

I think it's wrong to fine schools over a mild rushing of the court like this. I don't understand why they do this. if there was damage or harm, maybe, but there was nothing like that and it allows the kids to get into the game and want to show up. $250k is a ridiculous amount to fine them over that. Why don't they fine them that over deliberate targeting that results in serious injury or something, not kids walking on the ball court after a game to express joy. Walking on the court to beat someone up after a game, yes, fine. Expressing joy, no.
