USCe #3

Yesterday, Baseball 1234 wondered if Javy Vaz was injured, perhaps couldn't swing the bat. Well he's not in the lineup again today, Calvin Hewett getting what I believe is his first career start in LF. So it would seem Mr. V may indeed be injured.

Additionally, freshman Bryce Cunningham getting his first career start. He needs to pick up where Patrick Reilly left off yesterday. And a tip-of-the-cap to Mr. Reilly for coming into a very tough situation and shutting down Carolina for 5.2 huge innings, giving up just one questionable run (the overturned out at the plate following the wild pitch), striking out 14 and never losing the strike zone. Job well done!

Yeah, I was coming on to ask if anyone knew where Vaz was. Guess it is a mystery.
Let's hope Cunningham keeps this up for at least 4-5 more innings.
We need to get a crooked letter this inning.

Can't get a ball/strike call to save our lives.

I understand running up the pitch count on the opposing pitcher so you take a lot of pitches. This guys count is high right now so why not attack the first good pitch you see. It seems they are waiting to get 2 strikes before they are ready to hit.

I'd have been HURT on the stretch by that FB there. This should have been on the LAST inning. Never went through.

Meanwhile, Keegan must be the slowest runner on the team. Bradfield would have been 4 steps past first on that.

That was actually a very good catch by Bradfield looking directly into the sun. 3-2 good guys.

At least Hewitt does something. Beginning to think we weren't going to score. 5-2 now.

Young and Noland stood there and took strike three and hit a VERY short pop up to the CF. Bradfield looked like he was going to do the same, taking a strike and missing the next. But their guy was out of gas and threw 4 straight balls. Now Diaz with a chance with two out and two on.

After a double steal, putting guys on second and third, Diaz takes two strikes and swings at one 4 inches high and a foot off the plate.
Do we have a hitting coach?
Oh well, 5-2 VU.

If we pitch and hit the way he have the last two day, Tennessee will run us off the field in a sweep. And not a close one, either.

So far today the VandyBoys have sucked on multiple levels against the "mighty" Cocks.

Do the coaches teach the strike zone. Swing at the ones over the plate, take the ones on the ground, in the opposite batters box, or over your head.
Like Keegan just did.

Frustrating game, so many missed opportunities, too many pitchers left in a bit too long. Baseball can be maddening.
