Looks like Jake is still having control problems.

Couple walks, sacrifice and single to center score the first run for Cal Poly. Eder gets out of the inning giving up just one run.

'Dores go three up three down.

Austin Martin got a hold of one that went deep into left center but fell short at the warning track.

I’m afraid being down 3 runs is to much to recover from the way we are hitting the ball. We can’t seem to get anything out of the infield

We are making their frosh pitcher look like Cy Young. Hit 2 out of in-field all day-,lots of in-field outs. We need to learn how to get ball into outfield. Lot of youny hitters will learn. Going to have to be patient with this young team.

I'm disappointed in today's performance. The loss to Michigan didn't shock me. But I expected to beat the polywogs.

Perhaps the Cal Poly pitcher deserves the credit. His change-up (he must throw it 60-70% of the time) has been tremendous, consistently diving down-and-away from VU's very young hitters. It's hard to drive--or lay off--that kinda pitching. Many of VU's power arms have consistently struggled to throw strikes the last 4-5 years. On the other hand, Cal Poly #33 has pitched very well; has he even hit 90 mph? Surprised they let him throw 100+ pitches in his first college game.

Last year's experienced, senior-heavy team was built for Omaha. As you note, patience is necessary as this year's team will be a season-long work in progress...can't wait for April-May to see how they find their way. Trust in Corbs who builds for the postseason.

As for this weekend, missing Duvall is clearly a factor, freshmen errors have been critical (Jones has a long way to go to being a proficient first baseman), Hickman & Rocker have picked right up from last year, Brown grooved one really fat pitch, only 1 hit but Martin has been very patient and hit the ball hard 4-5 times, wondering where Keegan is, Sunday starter remains a mystery.

I never would have guessed an 0-2 start to the season for Brown. Cal Poly was actually really good.
