Mississippi State sweeps Georgia

Post by Good2BGold »

Mississippi State held on for a 6-5 win over Georgia today to sweep the series. That gives the 'Dores a two-game cushion in the East and at least a share of first place in the conference. Now we need the Vawls to salvage a win their series with Arkansas to have sole possession of first.

The Vawls just tied Arkansas 2-2 in the top of the eighth. Go Vawls, and I really mean it this one time.

Dang! The Hogs hit a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to send it to extras, then won it in the bottom of the tenth. So the 'Dores and Hogs are tied at the top of the SEC with records of 15-6.

Arkansas does have a much tougher remaining schedule than Vandy: at UK, LSU, at A&M.

Doesn't VU have the tie-breaker by virtue of going 2 and 1 against Arkansas?

we are without Scott (knee) and Tyler Brown (family concerns) - it is that time of year when the grueling grind of SEC takes its toll. Our schedule is favorable if we play to our potential and our opponents play as they have so far this year. Keep the pedal to the metal and go into post season with momentum.

We were also without Cooper Davis who was a great leadoff man. And while not a starter Fentress is also hurt per Kevin Ingram. All the talking heads want to talk about the teams with injuries, but we have been hit as hard as any, we just have had good depth that has come through.

My daughter dated a Razorback, so I also root for Arkansas.
Vanderbilt does have the tiebreaker over UA and, of course, it’s always great to win the regular season title.
But it’s definitely a big deal to finish in the top 4 and avoid a win-or-go-home situation.
Currently, 4 teams are tied for 3 through 6 at 13-8. Lots of ball to be played.

True, but if we bring our A game, we are playing the teams at the bottom of the conference on the road (KY and SC) and a less than powerful Mizzou team at home. We SHOULD win at least 6 and should get more.

we have a great big target on our chest - all the games will be tough with our national ranking and our SEC leading record. I suppose better to be the hunted than the hunter.

I don't think there is a tie breaker for the actual regular season title. Unless they have changed it, if you are tied you are co-champions even if you won 2-out of three against the other co-champion. For SEC Tourney seeding there is a tie breaker.

You are correct re tiebreaker.
I don’t care if Arkansas or some other team also has a trophy, but it is nice to have our own trophy AND the top seed in the SECT.
