Where about the Texas Bowl in Houston? People around town aren't ruling it out.

I'd be shocked if anyone in the SEC would choose B'ham or S'port. EVER

I didn't really care between Birmingham and Memphis until I saw that the Birmingham Bowl is December 22.
That really stinks, especially for the Vanderbilt student athlete. I'm serious.
I know that 99% of the college football fan base doesn't give a crap about academics, but they shouldn't have to get ready for the bowl game during EXAM WEEK.

The Liberty Bowl in on December 31, 2018 - 2:45 PM
Music City is December 28 at 12:30 pm.
I like those two bowls. The Music City is a first class operation. The Liberty Bowl isn't as nice as the Music City but Memphis is a nice town with lots of good BBQ. 200 mile drive is not too bad.

What, no votes for Shreveport? Have none of you ever been to Strawn's Eat Shop?

The Liberty is also beneficial because it is on Monday, New Years Eve, and most Vandy fans will likely be off from work to go to the game. The 31st date also gives the players time to get in good practices well after their exams.

Opening in 2002, the Houston Texans stadium became the first retractable roof facility in the NFL. ... It was renamed NRG Stadium in March 2014 after NRG Energy purchased Reliant Energy.

Gator, Belk, Liberty/Music City.................Birmingham. Texas is interesting, but I probably couldn't make that trip. The others are in play for me.
Re: Which Bowl do you want for Vanderbilt?
let's face it. The SEC would send us to the Akron Rubber Bowl if they could.

Re: Which Bowl do you want for Vanderbilt?
I think the Independence Bowl is basically an impossibility at this point based on SEC teams that are bowl eligible and the number of tie ins. Gator Bowl is an option though - remote as it may be. And that would have to be my first pick and the Music City would be my last pick. The other three are about equal to me. Birmingham is close by. Charlotte and Memphis are both good cities to visit. I am just glad we are going bowling and that it won't be in Shreveport the day after Christmas.

We learned when Franklin was here that Vanderbilt could go 8-4 and still wouldn't ever get a serious consideration for bowls such as the Gator Bowl. The SEC doesn't WANT Vanderbilt and its small fan base to go to a bowl game--period.
Whichever bowl we get, we absolutely know one thing: It isn't as good a bowl at UT would have gotten had they won on Saturday night. We may end up with Liberty or Birmingham, while I the Vawls would have gotten Gator or Belk.
Meanwhile, other conferences don't treat their private schools like this. When Duke earned a trip to a bowl game in Atlanta, the ACC let them go.

Re: Which Bowl do you want for Vanderbilt?
The bowls pick the teams in a predetermined order. I can understand why they want more people in the stands and more eyes on the TV- it's just business folks. Ridiculous to say the SEC doesn't want us in a bowl and tries to send us to the worst possible. They have even put some measures in to improve the way the individual bowls are allowed to select teams. As it is at 6-6, we are certainly going to be the last chosen.
I know I don't want to go to Shreveport again. From a purely selfish standpoint, I'd go to Nashville, Memphis, or Birmingham, and I'd think about the Gator Bowl because I haven't been to that one. That said, it almost seems as if the Belk bowl would be a better spot.
I'm just happy to be in this position instead of talking about recruiting like our foe to the east.

I live in Raleigh so I could get family to the Belk Bowl.

Re: Which Bowl do you want for Vanderbilt?
IMO here are some advantages of each
Liberty & Texas - recruiting, good date for Liberty
Birmingham & Shreveport it’s a bowl
Music City Convenient for locals
Belk - new location also good date and on broadcast tv
