Bracketology
Latest Bracketology has us going to East Carolina, with army and northeastern. Not a bad draw. Kentucky is a 14 seed. If we can win that series maybe we can still host.

Re: Bracketology
Unfortunately, I do not think VU can go from #35 (approximately) in the polls to the top 16 without sweeping Kentucky and winning several games in the SEC tournament.GooseJones15 wrote:Latest Bracketology has us going to East Carolina, with army and northeastern. Re: Bracketology
Yeah we would have to run the table to have any shot of hosting, and I still think we'd come up short.

Re: Bracketology
Let's just make the NCAA Tournament. Will be a #2 or #3 seed and the primary difference is that #2 is the "home" team in the opener between the two. If Vanderbilt is the #3 seed and wins, it will likely play the host with VU being designated "home" on the second day.

#3 seeds?
I have to disagree with you, BW. I suppose the Selection Committee could say, "We don't need more than 8 teams from a single conference. That puts the top SEC teams in there, all good enough for a #2 seed or better.BWestbrook wrote:No SEC team will get a 3 seed this yr.
But if the SEC gets 10-11 teams, as most predict, "bubble" teams such as Vanderbilt will get in as a #3. This is the May 15 (likely before VU-MTSU) d1baseball.com prediction: https://d1baseball.com/projections/proj ... 64-may-15/
SEC Seeds
#1 (1-8) .... Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia
#1 (9-16) ... N/A
#2 ........... Texas A&M, South Carolina, Kentucky, Auburn
#3 ........... Vanderbilt, LSU, Mississippi State
11 teams from the SEC. LSU and Mississippi State are considered among the "Last Five In." That's a good sign for Vanderbilt. What would not be good is a potential opening game vs. Tennessee Tech. Don't start Reid Schaller!

Re: Bracketology
What was Viriginia's seed going into the tourney when they beat us in the finals in 2015? Didn't they barely make it in? I know they had some injuries and key players returning at the end of the season but just like in basketball, make the tourney then make some noise.

Virginia #3 seed in 2015
The Virginia Cavaliers had an up-and-down 2015 season, winning their first 10 games before ACC play begaan. The team had a 4-game losing streak in early March and another 4-game losing streak (all at home) in late March. The Cavs reeled off 5 straight wins before losing 4 straight at home, including a 3-game sweep versus Louisville. They got hot at the end of ACC play, winning 5 of the last 6 including a sweep at North Carolina, to finish 15-15 in conference play.
But then a 1-3 record in the ACC Tournament put Virginia squarely on the bubble. The Cavs were 34-22 at that point and got in with a #3 seed. Cal Santa Barbara hosted a regional which was played at Lake Elsinore, California. Virginia won that regional with 3 consecutive wins without meeting the host team. Meanwhile, another east coast team, Maryland (also a #3 seed), took the regional at UCLA.

That's when Virginia caught a break and was named the host team for a Super Regional against Maryland. Virginia knocked off Maryland in 2 games and ... you know the rest.

To this day I say the year we won it Virginia had the best team and the year they won we had the best team. Funny game, baseball

I agree. I had a lot better feeling going against VA in 2015 than 2014.commadore wrote:Versus75 wrote:The Virginia Cavaliers had an up-and-down 2015 season, winning their first 10 games before ACC play begaan. If Walker Buehler had been 100% in 2015, we'd have won another NC.
