Two good days for Brandt

Post by vandybl »

Brandt Snedeker just completed round number two at the 3M Championship outside of Minneapolis. On his first round Thursday, Brandt shot a bogey-free 64, with seven birdies. He was tied for second place after playing a brilliant round of golf. During round one, Brandt made over 100 feet of puts, which is very good. With the pressure to follow on his great first round, Brandt got off to a rocky start in round two. Starting on the back nine, he had penalty shots on #'s 10 and 11 and was three over par after two holes. Things did not look good at that point. Fold or flourish?? Well, Brandt got going and began playing outstanding golf. Over the next 16 holes, Brandt had seven more birdies, with three on the tough front nine. He shot a very respectable 68 and is one off the lead after two rounds. During this second round, Brant made over 140 feet of putts! He is in position to do well this weekend. If his putter stays hot, great things can happen. I will be watching. Go Vandy!!

Thanks for this update -- I'll be checking on him the remainder of the weekend. I'd love for Brandt to have another crack at AUGUSTA. Would a victory this weekend secure an invitation to the Masters? Or is an invitation based on other criteria?

Winners of PGA tournaments qualify for the next Masters tournament. Since this 3M tournament is in July, if Brandt wins, he would be eligible to play in the 2024 Masters. Lets hope he has a great weekend. Go Vandy!

Golf is a difficult game, especially on the courses the PGA plays. When Brandt rejoined the tour last month after a long time off (and major surgery), he knew it would be challenging. He has had some successes - making the cut at the Memorial in Ohio; a good second round in the tournament last week; and Thursday's 64 at 3M. He did some really good things this week (chipping, short irons, putting on Thursday and Friday). He also learned more about areas he needs to work on. Next week the pros play in Virginia at the Wyndham tournament (which Brandt has won twice). Hopefully he will build on his positives and have a good week. The fact that he is playing and making progress is a real positive. While next week is the end of the regular tour for this season, Brandt will have time to sharpen his game and get ready for the fall tournaments - at least the ones he qualifies for. Go Vandy!

For those that pay attention to professional golf and the exploits of Brandt Snedeker:

Brandt is playing in the Wyndham tounament near Greensboro, NC. This is the final regular season tourney of the season. On Thursday Brandt fired an even par 70. He needed to get going if he wanted to make the cut and play the weekend. He bogeyed the first hole (three put from 60+ feet) and after nine holes he was three shots behind the cut line. No looking good. But he rallied with 5 birdies on the back side and shot a three under 67. Good enough to make the cut. There is no telling what happens after this, but Brandt has to feel good about making progress over the past several weeks. To close out today with birdies on the last two holes to make the cut is positive. It would be great if he were able to get a few more PGA wins down the road. Go Vandy!
