Another rumored visit: Ven-Allen Lubin

Post by AuricGoldfinger »

He was a true freshman this year for the Irish, played in 28 games and averaged 17 minutes a game. Averaged 6.2 ppg on 58% shooting, and a relatively robust (for minutes played) 4.4 rebs. He's 6-8, 226 lbs and is from Orlando. Had a ton of offers coming out of high school.

And, he did not invent the Venn diagram.

Yes. But, are the Van Allen belts still burning?

This should be a top priority for us. Lots of eligibility remaining, showed a lot in his part time role (similar minutes to Smith for us) and his rate numbers are very nice.

Lubin played around 15 mpg or so, and was moderately involved in the offense playing primarily as the backup PF, with undersized Goodwin starting and playing a stretch 4 but also playing wing when Lubin was on the court. Lubin's shot the ball well from inside the arc, hitting 62.5% of his 2 pt attempts. He didn't get to the line too often and was only 67% from the line, and didn't really attempt many threes (1-11 on the season). He was a good rebounder, grabbing over 10% of available offensive boards and almost 20% of available defensive boards while he was on the court, rates that are very similar to what Robbins did this season. He did a very good job of not turning the ball over, thought ND"s offense was very TO averse. He did block a fair number of shots as well.

These are all very nice numbers for a freshman playing a part time role, and something would lead one to think that a good jump was very possible. He would at the very least provide depth at the PF position but might also allow Smith to play some SF as well, pushing Turner to the SG spot.

This is who I want. Get him and the Arkansas transfer and I’m ready for the season.

Not sure, but Van Halen was still better than Van Hagar.

He was offered by most SEC schools out of h.s. along with other big names around the nation.

I have often wondered if a Venn Diagram of the Van Allen belts would look anything like the rings of Saturn.
