Re: Missouri tonight! (Game thread)
What an ending. Why would the guy go to third. You never make the third out at third, but he tried to stretch the double into a triple and lost the bet. 7-6 good guys. The streak lives.

Great win! Schultz was reliable for the most part last season. Hope he can get it together.

Absolutely, positively 100% correct! What an incredibly boneheaded play.

Re: Missouri tonight! (Game thread)
They said we were trying to catch Tennessee's record of 12 straight. We still have the record of 26 wins so they can just shut up.

Re: Missouri tonight! (Game thread)
Just curious - why did the home plate umpire have to make the call on the last out at third? There were four umpires and did not see the third base umpire head to the outfield- where did he go?

You are right. The 2013 team That was 54-12, but lost two straight to Louisville in the super regionals.commadore wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 9:57 pm75 year old brain here. But I thought it was 26. The conference W-L record that year was OUTSTANDING. Hard to believe a team could sweep through a conference as tough as the SEC with just 3 losses.

Really need to win today. SC clobbered #1 LSU and we are there next week. SC plays double header with LSU today so they get extra day of rest plus we are travelling a lot. But need to focus on today's game now.

Unusual game, to say the least.
All those insurance runs that Vanderbilt was getting in the 6th, 7th and 8th because of aggressive base running ending up being really important.

There, fixed it for you.
Re: Missouri tonight! (Game thread)
I was wondering that too. I know there are situational rotations that move positioning, but I can't imagine what it would be on that play with no runners on base. I was hoping for a field-wide replay to see that, but no luck there.3rdFloorDyer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 9:39 pm Just curious - why did the home plate umpire have to make the call on the last out at third? Re: Missouri tonight! (Game thread)
Long baseball season makes for conflicting emotions about things. The lesson from hoops’ slow start makes me more inclined to pin importance on the current winning streak etc—would be great to host both a regional and a super regional. On the other hand it’s so hard to maintain good juju and would be better to have us positioned to end the season on a winning streak like this (and as silly as it sounds), not use it all up early in the year.
Anyway, this is a dumb fan’s view of things rather than that of a baseball insider, but I suspect shared by others. Regardless, winning the first 10 Conference games of the year has been awesome.
