Nebraska thread

Post by commadore »

Easy first for Holton, but now UN has runners on second and third with no outs. Single and double.
We get the lead runner, but Everitt doubles down the line. Now 2nd and 3rd and 1-0. Walk loads the bases. Still just 1 out. Typical Holton. Get a runner on and can't throw strikes. To prove me wrong, he strikes out the next guy. Bases loaded, 2 out. Another k and he minimizes the damage. 1-0 Nebraska after two.
We have left 2 on in the second and after a DP in the first we left one.

Bradfield leads off with a ground out (K'd in 1st). Now hitting .212.
Polk flies out.
Vastine Ks. That sure as hell didn't take long.

This thread is good, let's stay here :)

The ball has got to be brutal to see in here. Sun is behind the hitter, shining thru an opaque, plastic-looking roof. EBjr lost that last double in the sun, misjudged it off the bat and then clearly couldn't find as he went back. Tough place to play defense, at least in the morning.

Holton has not been sharp, Nebraska making good contact. Yet only one run thru 3.

Pair of bombs! Shreck stroked a laser over the RF fabric monster; got out of here in about 3 seconds. Noland a more traditional high fly to straightaway center. BTW, every flyball looks like an adventure.

I don't know if Nebraska just has really good hitters, or if Holtin is just badly off today, but the Huskers are just ripping the ball all over the lot. Despite his troubles, 2-1 Vandy after 4. BTW, l Schreck made a great play in right, taking a line shot off the bottom of the wall and throwing a bullet to 2nd to get the hitter trying to stretch into a double.

Do you think the weird layout favors the hitters or pitchers?

Hitters, no doubt. Between the monstrous outfield-- no way the 328' LF line is under 350', every ball hit to the outfield is potential extra bases. Add to that the difficulty tracking flyballs--Noland caught a pop foul that he badly misjudged off the bat but did a good job recovering to make the play--and this park is a pitcher's nightmare.

Corbs yanks Holton for Cunningham after he hit the leadoff man in the 6th. No pitch count in the stadium, but I gotta believe Holton is up to 75-80 pitches. Not the same guy who dominated UCLA.

I'm coming to the conclusion that Nebraska has some hitters. These boys just keep ripping. Add an Espinol passed ball after an RBI double and the score is knotted, 3-3.

Easy 1-2-3 inning for new Huskers pitcher. Vandy just looks flat.

Schultz warming up after a leadoff single. Then Cunningham gets seriously lucky...runner on first runs on 3-2 pitch, hitter SCREAMS a liner to RF. Schreck makes a nice play on on yet another barreled-up Nebraska swing and doubled the runner off first. Another adventurous routine F9 and we're to the 8th tied. Schultzy still warming up.

Hard to get a feel for a game on an iPhone using a game tracker format. It seems the Huskers can hit, and right now, the Dores can’t. I don’t think we are designed to win by the long ball. The key is Bradfield. Once he gets going, the Dores get going. The offense runs (literally and figuratively) through him. Right now, the Dores just need to scratch it out.

It wd be interesting to see a picture of the playing field. It is hard to imagine what it looks like.

Go Dores!!!

Schultz in, no better. Long leadoff HR down the LF line. Vandy is like the walking dead out there.

I don't know if Nebraska is just loaded with hitters or they caught magic in a bottle, but they are all barreling the ball up. Vandy pitching has not intimidated the Nebraska boys in the least.
