OT: SEC Championship Game is meaningless

If LSU beats Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, all the media is saying that UT and Georgia would get in the CFP and LSU wouldn’t because they have two losses and because UT blew them out.

This is absurd. The SEC champion should make it to the CFP even if they have two losses.

If not, what’s the point of the SECCG? Both teams should just rest their starters and treat it like a preseason NFL game. Especially Georgia. They’re getting in the CFP regardless because they would only have one loss if they lost in the SECCG.

So Kirby should rest his starters so they won’t get injured. BecUse apparently the game is meaningless now if UT can jump over the SEC champion and get into the CFP over LSU if they win the SECCG.

Georgia wants to win so that it will be the no. 1 seed and play Tennessee.

Conference championships need to either become part of the eventual expanded playoff or die when it comes to fruition. Just too many games.

This isn't like College Basketball where the team that wins the tournament gets an automatic bid. The goal is to get the best four football teams for the playoff. I think Georgia should definitely be in. After that it isn't very clear who will get in. There could be two Big Ten teams in the CFP field this season.

The SOLE purpose of the SECC game is money. I know, everything is, in big-time college sports. And I'm not just being cynical. The only reason the game was added in the beginning was the $$$.

When the is a dominant East team and a dominant West team the SECCG doesn't do much for the fans because you know it's almost certain to be a no-stakes preview of the NC game - kind of an exhibition game as noted above.
The only way I can see it help a team is if one of the division champs is marginal for the playoff and they can bolster their CV with a win over the presumably #1 or 2 team in the SECCG.
Of course none of this has anything to do with why the game is played.
