Dylan Lesko Sore Arm

In The Athletic today, Keith Law wrote, "This week arm soreness caused him [Dylan Lesko] to skip a start", but Law implied it was more precautionary that anything. But later in the article he wrote that Lesko's draft status could drop because MLB teams may shy away from a pitcher "Facing a potential long term injury" and that Lesko may now be more likely to attend college.

Who knows what this means. Does anyone have any insight into this? In particular, if either Pink Floyd or HopslikeHolwerda have insights, I would be most interested in what you may think.

Law also had Andruw Jones as the #1 prospect in this draft class. Hope I'm wrong, but it seems inevitable that he will go pro.

The only hope with Jones is that the family likely does not need the money. Sr. knows the grind of Minor League Baseball. We can only hope.

Lesko and Rocker should both pitch for Vanderbilt next season to show the scouts what they can expect.

For that matter, Kumar could come back to the ‘Dores and finish THIS season. He still has 2 years of eligibility.

A perceived arm injury could get Lesko to campus. But if so, he's probably going to have surgery and not be ready for a year. He is a special talent. I'd love to get Jones on campus, but that will be nearly impossible. One amazing factoid, and I expect it will change with Hassell/Xavier Edwards/Lawler, but I think there's only one VU position-player commit that has opted to sign a pro contract and actually made it to the MLB...Matt Olson.

Non-pitcher Vanderbilt commit who spurned the ‘Dores, turned pro, and made it to the big leagues.

Plenty of pitchers but only two position players that I can find dating to Class of 2007.

Most of the non-pitchers would have done better to play for us rather than struggle in the low minors.

Question for you are familiar with recuperation from TJ surgery. Is he likely to have the most successful path toward healing in college with conceivably a light use freshman year or in the minors where he might be rushed into action ?

12 months of no competitive pitching, at a minimum. Will be an interesting choice. If he goes minors, he could be pitching again next summer meaning he will have missed a fall season of Rookie Ball only. He'd probably begin at Rookie Ball in the fall of next year with the 2023 draft class of whomever drafts him.

If he comes to campus, he gets even more rest. He might throw an inning or so in the fall series in 2023.

His decision will come down to draft slot. If he's drafted Top 15, he has to go. If he thinks he's lower, he will probably make it known he is going to college and may slide. If he comes to campus, he will be a Top 5 pick whenever he enters the draft...so the incentive to come to campus is there.
