Curiously, Alters was announced by Vandy as a signee on national signing day. (Schools are prohibited by rule from announcing commitments until they sign or enroll in classes.) However, he evidently did not sign, as he has now committed to the University of Virginia. I can't explain what happened there, but he's now going to be a Wahoo.
On his 247 profile, by "Vanderbilt" it shows a little walking person image. I don't know if that means he was going to be a walk-on or that he walked away from his commitment. If he was going to walk on that explains this. He decided to go somewhere where he could get a scholarship.

He was a PWO for us, so not surprised he left for a scholarship at UVA.
That's fine, but I'm still confused as to why Vanderbilt announced him among the signees on signing day. If he didn't actually sign, I think it's against the rules to do that... or at least it used to be. He even had his own web page with all the attendant hoopla on VUCommodores.com. (I see that it's been deleted now though.)
Let's not downplay him because he changed. Bottom line, he earned a D1 scholarship to play football and he's going to a great school where he won't have to pay his tuition. Congrats to him (and his parents!)
