That's actually what bugs me about this. We were going to win last year and COVID robbed us. Getting the no contest against NCSt should have been our karmic payback. Then ... this. Ugh.Minoadoc wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 8:36 pm Bad way to end up, but two titles, two runner ups in 7 years is great. And no telling how far the 2020 team would have gone, Rocker, Leiter, and Hickman as SP, solid BP, and Austin Martin. With the number of injuries we had this year, pitchers lost, Ethan Smith, Keegan, Thomas, Young, Kowalczk all missing time and all not as effective after they came back. And we are back in the finals

Fair enough! Hey but at least we just got our 1st hit tonight and "no hitter" will not be a part of this day's story!OldDude wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 8:31 pmPretty much agree except for the hitting coaching. Seems the offense was slipping late in the season and didn't show any adjustment that I could see (again stressing that I am no baseball guru).EagleDore wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 8:24 pm On the one hand it is pretty impressive that this team made it all the way to a CWS finals game 3 despite the season's injuries and the more recent batting avg slump and errors, etc. Our presence here shows some grit and good coaching.
On the other hand, it stinks to play so poorly these last two nights and especially tonight. Did the situation just get into our collective heads? Did we run out of gas? Did we meet just one to many great and deep teams -- MSU is a great team, and they have outplayed us, and have been well coached. Feel bad for our boys, but they've had a great season.

Thank you Carter Young, for saving us from the additional extreme embarassment of being no-hit in the final game.

Carter Young!? If all the guys to get a hit I didn't think it would be him. Poor dude has had a really rough Omaha.

And really, if you take out the first inning of game 1...geeznotagain wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 8:47 pm Outscored something like 22-2 in the last 2 games. Impressive.

Well the team is staying out and soaking in this loss…good motivation for a young team next year.

Looked safe to me on the final out.
And ball 4 before that.
Not that it matters. They plainly outplayed us completely.

Y'all, I don't mean to be a pill, but Noland was safe. It was not close in slow motion. Not that it would have mattered at all. But kind of an ironic way for it to end.
Congrats to MSU - they played well. They deserved to win this one.
We have been in the Championship Finals 4 of the last 7 years of college baseball. Again, proud of Vandy baseball. Wish we had played better tonight. But it was not our night.

We definitely overachieved this year and by smoke and mirrors got into the finals. Leiter & Rocker are now Vandy legends. Don’t know if we’ll ever have two like that at one time again. They were special.

I feel the same way. In the last week, we’ve been portrayed (unfairly) as the villain and undeserving to be in the finals. And then we followed it up by playing like total garbage.
It was a fantastic season. Making it to Omaha is an incredible accomplishment. I’m very proud of this team. But I feel pretty awful for how the last week went. As FLdore said, I feel bad for the players who had to put up with this kind of bullshit from everybody the last week.

My charitable guess is that he was trying to save some time on the throw in by barehanding it, like a 3rd basemen with a bunt.

Here's a photo from after the final game of a Mississippi State fan being escorted in handcuffs to the tunnel. This is not the beer thrower but he did cause problems during that incident.
