Gonzo swings for the fences on the first one... we need a single here. With two strikes, Stanford changes pitchers. Brings in their game oner starter. I thought he looked hittable in game one. Here he is on short rest... Interesting. Tough for Gonzo, though, to see a new pitcher with two strikes already...

I don’t believe anything happened tonight…one of the most bizarre games I have ever seen.

Well - not the way I figured, but gutsy comeback!Levon wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 8:31 pmNo doubt. Only one Stanford hitter has done damage. Play good defense, focus on contact when hitting, and Vanderbilt will win this game.charlestonalum wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 8:27 pmWe are down by 1 - can win this thing.charlestonalum wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 8:18 pm We will capitalize on this opportunity I actually believe.

I’m so excited I can’t feel sorry for Beck. Maybe I will tomorrow…or maybe not!!
He had the game in hand and then we struck.
What a feeling. What momentum going forward.

What an incredible finish! I still can’t believe that happened. But I’m so glad it did!
Oh man offense still needs work. Between this game and our CWS opener against Arizona, we may have used up most all of our luck. Need to take that out of the equation as best we can.
Excited about Rocker getting a crack at the Wolfpack.

Re: CWS Vanderbilt vs. Stanford
That wasn't on Beck. I blame the Stanford coach.
Beck threw 109 pitches while getting roughed by NC State on Saturday. Then, with only 3 days of rest, he was sent in for 43 pitches and nearly 3 innings. Well, 42 pitches and one long lob to the backstop.
Meanwhile, Stanford left its 13-save ace Grech* on the bench. Grech had a 3.62 ERA and 1.09 WHIP despite being hit hard on Saturday. But the Tree also had Joey Dixon (3.28), Brandt Pancer (3.83) and Tommy O'Rourke (4.07) who had all pitched in at least 23 games this year.
Beck just didn't have enough and the coach hung him out to dry.
*Was it the 4 runs (3 earned) on Saturday versus NC State that kept Grech off the field? Maybe he was hurt. Maybe the Stanford coach gave up on Grech. We will never know.
