Miami, JJ Bleday reach deal
As reported by MLB Network's Jon Heyman tonight. Just in case you thought there was a chance he'd be back.

Luckily for JJ, since he is living in Tennessee at the time of signing, there should be no state tax to pay. After his agent and tax, he will keep about $3.88 million. Not too shabby for a young man. Advice, invest about $3.6 of it with a couple of reputable brokers.

Florida doesn't have an income tax anyway.commadore wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 7:01 am Luckily for JJ, since he is living in Tennessee at the time of signing, there should be no state tax to pay. I was reading the article and took one last look in awe at the stats- 27 homers this year with a .347/.465/.701 slash line. We have incredible talent and depth on the roster, but that's a hole that simply cannot be filled.

Re: Miami, JJ Bleday reach deal
I knew that too, but (1) where he goes first may have one and (2) it is where he lives when he gets the bonus, not where he ends up living at the end of the year. The income taxes of the pro athletes are really quite complex. They have to allocate income based upon where the games are played. For instance, someone playing for the Rockies will have a lot of California taxes, as well as those of the rest of the league and the states where they play crossover games. Someone playing for the Marlins, will have 82 games without state taxes, plus whatever bonuses they have. American league players will also have Canadian taxes (Toronto) to pay as well as whatever states in which they will play. Bleday, if he has established Tennessee residency, will be subject to Tennessee tax ($0.00) for his budget, then whatever states his minor league team will play. When he gets to the Marlins, he will get a tax break at least for home games, Arizona games, and Texas games. May be another as well, just can't recall at the moment.Titans309fan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 9:03 amFlorida doesn't have an income tax anyway.commadore wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 7:01 am Luckily for JJ, since he is living in Tennessee at the time of signing, there should be no state tax to pay.
