MLB Draft day 3

Post by commadore »

Ryan Clifford, a 5 star signee goes 343 to Houston in round 12. I think he must be considered a hard sign, as he was ranked as the 92nd best target.

I thought for sure Anderson and Shultz would be drafted. You cannot teach 97 mph fastballs with movement.

... with PerfectGame rankings:

Pos/Overall Player / PG Pos.
003 015 Andrew Dutkanych, RHP
011 059 RJ Austin, SS
031 109 David Horn, RHP
033 135 Chris Maldonado, SS
027 186 JD Thompson, LHP

058 500*Logan Poteet, C
107 500*Devan Kodali, OF

I don't see Cade Law on the perfectgame.org site, but sources said he is committed to Vanderbilt ... and also that he is a 3-star QB offered by Air Force, Akron and several FCS schools. Some of you can fill us in more about Mr. Law.

BTW
Pos/Overall Player / PG Pos.
048 161 Carson Milbrandt, RHP ... drafted #85 by Marlins / slot $747k
011 044 Ryan Clifford, OF ... drafted #343 by Astros (is the signing bonus limited to $20,000?)

*likely 500-1000

How many Overall Top 200 players committed to SEC schools were not drafted in the first 10 rounds?

LSU ............. 6 (all in Top 100)
Vanderbilt ...... 5
South Carolina .. 5
Florida ......... 5
Ole Miss ........ 5
Arkansas ........ 4
Mississippi State 4
Auburn .......... 4
Tennessee ....... 4
Alabama ......... 3
Kentucky ........ 3
Texas A&M ....... 2
Georgia ......... 1
Missouri ........ 1

Shultz was a workhorse for us this season. Very reliable. He'll get signed by someone and they'll see that they hit the jackpot with him. Maybe he could come back for another season at Vandy. That would be amazing news.

Is it a typo or ...

Post by Versus75 »

... did Druw Jones sign for the same amount as Kumar Rocker: $5.2 million?

https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/2022/all/round/1

At least one website said he signed for $8,185,100, which is the approximate (if not exact) slot value for the no. 2 pick.

https://www.rotoballer.com/player-news/ ... on/1043288

Several websites, including from Yahoo and NBC Sports, have copied and pasted incorrect data indicating the draft is 30 rounds. We know that is not true.

Someone at MLB probably entered Kumar's figure in the no. 2 slot. It will likely be fixed by the time you read this.

~~~
Also, I cannot find anything that states limits on signing bonuses for Rounds 11 through 20 or free agents. Does anyone have a link to this information? ...
I wonder what Thomas Schultz could get as a free agent
compared to returning for one more season and getting Top 10 Round money. (With the COVID season of 2020, he has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Thus, Schultz would still have some bargaining power following the 2023 draft.)
finally found answer to Undrafted Free Agent question
Post by Versus75 »
The $20,000 cap is gone. Teams can sign an undrafted Free Agent for any amount, but amounts "over $125,000 will count against a team's bonus pool."
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories ... g-bonuses/
... could be good for a guy like Tate Kolwyck. He has potential; just hasn't quite tapped it.
That may be the case for players drafted in rounds 11-20 as well, but I haven't confirmed.
Still, very few signings reported on the MLB Draft Tracker. Of the two I've seen, one is Kumar and the other (Druw Jones) seems to have an incorrect amount reported.
Draft Tracker now says both Jones and Holliday signed for $8.19 million.
Not going to be on the draft tracker but Kolwyck signed with the Angels after going undrafted.
