You should have thrown beer back at them. Instead like our team we could have been spotted 8 runs and lost both times. Vandy and our fans got soft and Thats that this year.

Sad.

I had hoped that the South progressed more than from the time of Perry Wallace. He endured more racial slurs, insults and threats than we can possibly imagine. After his pioneering days, today in the SEC there are black athletes, cheerleaders, coaches, professors and more. Even a black President. There is racial progress, but still there are those who live in the era of the Civil War.

My personal viewpoint is to judge people on their character. In fact, one of my best friends is black in the Bay Area. He is honest, upright and the product of great upbringing.

My roommate in college was from Michigan, just outside Detroit, and he was emphatic that the racism up North was far worse than where we were in the South. Race was an issue of the Civil War, but the main issue by far was what every war is about, money and power! I have hoped that big cities in the North would have come along farther by now!

I can confirm everything said on here about MSU fans. I came in neutral to positive about them. I’ve lived in Mississippi, knew lots of State fans, never had any issues at all with them.

After this series, I’m just irate at them. (Not about the team or the coaching staff, they all seemed fine and I congratulate them.) But the fans are beyond garbage. While I had nice conversations with plenty of them, as many a quarter to a third of them are disgusting, loathsome blights on our planet. There is no excusing them and anyone on here who defends Miss State fans in any way OBVIOUSLY DID NOT GO TO OMAHA. When I was talking to the decent ones, they tried to claim it was “a few bad apples”. No, it was a very significant portion of the fan base.

I will never cheer for State again in anything. If they play the Vols, I’ll root for a meteor strike.

Got soft? I didn't know who threw the darn beer. I asked everyone behind us, "who threw the beer?" None admitted to it, later we were told he took off after throwing it. How is that soft?

This thread took an odd turn.

Kind of ironic these days that the most patriotic, American loving states are the ones from the confederacy.

Yeah, this took the weirdest possible turn. To return to my thesis, like a quarter of the State fans in Omaha are the biggest jerks imaginable. Yes it is competitive, but Omaha is supposed to be a happy place, a celebration of baseball. State ruined it. That is all.

I’ve been very harsh, but not specific about what I saw. I did not see the Game 1 racial taunting, as our seats for that game were at the front of our cheering section and all of that happened at the back with fans yelling from the concourse. We did however experience a lot of Miss State idiocy, including getting screamed at repeatedly, flipped off everywhere we went and having some maroon actually punch our elevator door at the hotel (which was more funny than scary). Obviously we were all wearing black and gold and I wore Vandy baseball jerseys all week.

However, for game 2, after reading about what happened, and not having good seats anyway, my friends and I intentionally stood behind Christian Little’s family (who were in the last row of the Vandy section) to do what we could to shield them. Fortunately, I did not see any racist comments, though we dealt with lots of ugliness on the concourse, including countless Bulldog fans yelling and/or whooping in our faces (depending on the situation).

However, we did during Game 2 experience and unsuccessfully attempt to deal with one young and quite drunk Miss State moron who forced his way into standing next to me and probably bothered the Littles more than they let on. When he started pestering Christian’s younger brothers (in like the 5th or so, after Christian was taken out), the Littles actually left. I felt like I had had totally failed in protecting them. Eventually someone much bigger and more intimidating than me escorted our drunk friend away. He was not evil or racist that I saw, but clearly had been trying to mess with us all along. (I should have picked up on it earlier.). We were all glad to get rid of him.

And he was just one of 20,000. We were totally surrounded the whole week, actually worse than football against UT. Most Miss State fans were totally fine, appropriate fans. I met some good folks. But a good 20-25% were not. Total scumbags. They ruined the spirit of Omaha, one of the friendliest sporting events you’ll ever attend. So Miss State can go to hell forever as far as I’m concerned.

In game 1, my buddy and I secured 13 row seats behind home plate for a tidy sum only to get to our seats and be about 3 rows behind a middle aged lady that refused to sit down. She was only one in section standing. I started politely saying Down In Front but with no change observed after several requests, I screamed SIT DOWN.....I thought i was going to have to fight my way out of there, But it mostly worked as she generally stay seated unless she had something to cheer for during game. Besides fans like these mentioned in this thread, it should also be noted that these fans greatly increased the costs to attend the CWS......tix and hotels were ridiculous!!!

For what it's worth, it was by far the most fun I had in Omaha outside from the stadium. I went to the restaurant right across from the stadium before and after Games 2/3 and met nothing but nice baseball fans. The kids were certainly fired up before the game, but everyone to a man was gracious afterwards. I'm not sure it would have been the same if Vandy had won the game.
