Worried about pitching for Monday. Maldanado threw 48 pitches and Murphy threw 47. Doubt either can pitch Monday, at least no more than an inning.

Heck of a baseball game. Wow.

Gonzalez with a two strike single.

Two winners here: us and NC State. We burned a lot of our best arms. But you have to win that first game.

Leiter will need good stuff Monday - because Murphy and Maldonado threw a lot of pitches. But they were both great - and so was McElvain. Gritty win.

Walk off win. Great, gutty game to overcome bad start and multiple missed opportunities. Onward and upward. Happy Father's Day my wife said over here in EDT.

Hopefully they will have a bullpen by game 3. Tough having to go extra innings.

I believe they showed a graphic that Vandy was 1-12 in games where we trailed after six innings....

if I am not mistaken - the one win was Georgia Tech in the Tournament?

Anyway - nice job guys. It looked bad early. It was a character-building win.

Frankly I thought we were the better team. Kumar had a bad game, we left a lot of guys on base and nevertheless we won. Big, big confidence builder in spite of out tired arms.

No idea what transpires on Monday…but can’t wait.

Happy Father’s Day to all. Congrats to the Vandy boys

This might be the longest game thread in Vandymania baseball history.

[And I love it] :)

Whew!

Feel fortunate to win with 3 errors and so many LOB. Our bullpen was magnificent! Winning the first game is huge. Win the next and the bullpen can have time to get much-needed rest.

No pressure at all on Jack, he only needs to go 9 innings in game 2😁

All year long he has been either really good or horribly bad. You just never knew. Tonight we got Jeckel and not Hyde.

Surprised we left Maldo in to start the 9th as Murphy has pitched well of late in end of game situations. Maldo seems really good for an inning and maybe two but any longer he starts to wear down or lose focus or something. Bit us again last night. If Murphy came in to the start the 9th I think he would have closed it out.

Hopefully Leiter can go deep on Monday. May not see Maldo or Murphy there but in the event we lose, I'd have to think we could see them again on Wednesday. Nice thing about Omaha, especially starting on Saturday, is that the games are really spread out and your pitching staff doesn't get nearly as worn down as they would during a regional or super regional.

I would think Maldo and Murphy would be available for 25 pitches or so each in game 2. No different than pitching on Friday and then Sunday in a weekend series. Mac has looked like a different pitcher since the mound visit vs Georgia Tech. Has a deceptively good fastball and looked confident throwing it.

Loved the homeplate ump in game 1. Was awesome when he told the Zona catcher the pitch was off the plate but hey, good frame job though lol

After the 3 runs, Rocker struck out 7 of the next 10 hitters. He totaled 15 straight outs with no walks until the HBP. If Keegan fields that first ball, I believe we would have had a much different game. We still have Ethan Smith in the pen, which is an unknown, but he has a big arm. Schulz is the enigma…..Corbs stuck with him for quite a while, so he must have a good arm.

Interestingly, the PAC 12 lost the first 2 games and now we have 3 undefeated SEC teams, 2 ACC teams and Texas. I believe this is the strongest year the SEC has ever had with at least half the league spending time in the top 10.
