OT: I had wondered if Ron Bargatze was related to the comedian Nate Bargatze, since it is such an unusual name. Turns out they are second cousins. He is the rare, clean comedian, and I think he is pretty good. Sounds like a long-suffering Vanderbilt fan himself.

Nate always throws up the "VU" hand sign at the end of every set- even on his national TV hits: https://youtu.be/PJgSm3xy3LAkatmai wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 8:00 amOT: I had wondered if Ron Bargatze was related to the comedian Nate Bargatze, since it is such an unusual name. I assumed they were bros
For reason I can’t fully explain, at times my brain puts some of Ron & Charlie Macs radio calls on a continuous loop
A fav

Nate Bargatze
Watching his new Netflix special:
Greatest Average American.
Pretty funny. Realizing how rare a non-obscene stand-up act is.

He's kinda funny but some of the greatest standups of all time did drop well timed f-bombs.

Re: OT- mbb late 80s radio colorman
I liked Bargatze but my most memorable Bargatze moment is not a pleasant one. I think it was Ron who was doing the infamous VU-UF "tennis ball game". And I remember his exuberant comment when the ball sailed out of bounds (our possession) with 1 second left, something like "Vandy has this one in the bag" or "Vandy's gonna win this one". Less true words were never spoken. Not blaming Bargatze of course, as I thought the same thing, but's that's the call I associate with him

Re: OT- mbb late 80s radio colorman
Charlie Mac and Bargatze were tremendous together.
Charlie Mac was the best voice of the commodores during my listening years in my opinion. I liked Joe, but Charlie Mac was the voice of my youth. I was disappointed the new guy didn't mention him during his list on the announcement video.
I'd be willing to bet Charlie Mac regrets VU to go to UK. They never warmed to him there and he was pretty quickly sidelined. I could be wrong though, he had a good run at USC, but feel like he could have been legendary if he'd stuck here - at least in the minds of commodore fans.
