With all due respect, either you are deaf, the whistler himself, or insane.

Re: Isn't it nice to watch a game without
None of the above. The whistler not being there means several things:
1: No fans there to cheer on the hard work these young men put into their sport. I believe most athletes know without fans, there is no sport and that they want to put on a good show for others to see.
2: Without fans cheering them on, there is no extra motivation for the athletes to excel. Maybe it is a myth but you always hear athletes say the crowd lifted them to a higher level with their support. No one knows but maybe the rally that fell short in game 1 Friday night would have been different it the whistler was there at the end and the crowd was clapping along.
3: I know all the complaints that he is just trying to bring attention to himself but the guys who whistle go to just about every game. They are the definition of super fans. Most fan bases would celebrate the super fans but here, we want the banned from the ballpark. Can you imagine a Miss State fan celebrating the fact that there are no cowbells at games because it is too loud? I can't .
4: There was a discussion between the guys in the booth about the whistler yesterday. I don't remember which one said it but the point was made that he has been to enough games that he pretty much tunes the whistles out. I agree with that. I hear it for the first few games I watch but then it just becomes background noise that I tune out since I don't fixate on it.
Love them or hate them, Corbin and the players are OK with the whistlers so I am not going to disparage them. They go to the games and cheer on my favorite team.

Lets take a look at yesterday's results with no whistler(s) shall we.Doresince89 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 8:54 am

29 total runs in the double header wins
Rocker with no runs on three hits and 6 K's in 5 innings
Noland and Gonzalez combine for 7 RBI in the first game
Romero and Keegan combine for 13 RBI on five hits in the second game
Leiter throws 3 hit shutout ball with 7 K's in 5 innings
plus
Gonzales,Bradfield,Keegan now all hitting between .400 and .600
Seven positions players (regulars) with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage
Keegan with an insane 1.4000 slugging %
Pitching staff ERA of 1.80
Ten out of 14 pitchers with an ERA of 0.00
Looks like they found plenty "motivation to excel" without any incessant whistling in the stands.

Anecdotal comparison. There is no need for extra motivation when you are dominating. Should I go back in history to all the comeback wins with the whistler present? I can not prove that his whistling has a possible positive effect on the team but if it helps them get 1 or 2 extra wins each year because he gets the crowd fired up in the later innings of close games, I'm ok with it.SmittyDore wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 12:38 pmLets take a look at yesterday's results with no whistler(s) shall we.Doresince89 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 8:54 am

I am not going to argue on here about them. I have given my opinion and I am moving on.

I'd rather have someone sitting behind me with a megaphone screaming "LET'S GO DORES!"

I hear it for the first few decades of my life, and likely will continue to until old age has taken most of hearing. I guess I'm just a fixater. My wife eventually became background noise, the whistler not so much.

He also said, "The sound pretty much goes in one ear and out the other."Doresince89 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 8:54 am

Well, my wife and I were a couple seats away from The Whistler during Kumar's 19-strikeout no-hitter in the 2019 Super Regional.
I can attest that the sound pretty much went in one ear and rattled around in my head for a long time!
But that was okay with me because The Whistler kept the crowd pumping and kept the team pumping. And, as I said, Kumar struck out 19 Dookies while pitching a no-hitter!
I believe that tops "no runs on three hits and 6 K's in 5 innings" against Georgia State.

I think we’ve collected a couple of natties with the whistler. So, there is that.

Neither hypothesis is empirically provable.
Demonstrably, it gets on your nerves, but not on everyone’s.
Some even see positives from what they do.
If it gets the players fired up, that’s good. I’m truly sorry it bothers you so much.
