The thing that has fascinated me about this season is the run production. Last year, while we had four players (Kaiser, Paul, DeMarco, and Scott) with 40+ RBI, none had more than 46, and that included the SEC and NCAA tournament games. There was only one other player with at least 20 RBI (Gonzalez with 28). This year in just the regular season, we have two players with 60+ RBI and another with 59, but that's just the start. We also have a player with 40+, three with 30+, and two with more than 25. Here's the breakdown:
64 – Bleday (55 starts)
64 – Paul (55 starts)
59 – Clarke ( 54 starts)
45 – Scott (53 starts)
36 – Martin (49 starts)
34 – DeMarco (37 starts)
30 – Ray (48 starts)
29 – Infante (41 starts)
26 – Duval (40 starts)
We have at least six more games, and of course almost certainly more than that. The record for RBI in a single season is 74, a record jointly held by Warner Jones (2004) and Clinton Johnson (1998). Bleday and Paul are both within striking distance of that record. Clarke has an outside shot at it, too. Scott could finish with 50+, and Martin and DeMarco could both get 40 or more. It's pretty amazing. The record for runs scored in a season is 76, jointly held by Pedro Alvarez (2007) and Dansby Swanson (2015). Martin currently has 71 and Bleday has 68, so both are within striking distance of the record for runs scored in a season.
