Had 3 on with 1 out in the 9th. Got nothing. I hate bunting.

Bases loaded and we swing at ball 4 to end the inning. Will be a tough loss if it ends that way.

Yeah, that was definitely a ball. Good grief.

We lose 8-7. They score 5 runs in the 8th to tie it. Then they show us how to win a game this is tied in the 9th. The final batter needed only one pitch. Ball game.

I think we're going to have a lot of frustrating losses similar to this. Our bullpen is a huge liability. They just can't throw strikes.

Probably one of the more maddening, frustrating, and unexpected losses in quite a while.
Re: Saturday: Tied 7-7 in T9
I don't think this was unexpected. Our pitching has struggled all season. And now that we've started playing high quality teams like A&M, no lead will be safe. It's going to be a struggle to close out any game until we get more help outta the pen aside from Tyler brown. You should expect outcomes like this the rest of the season.

The only two pitchers on the entire staff that I trust are Raby and Brown. All the rest are shaky at times. And even Brown gets hit hard at times. His redeeming quality is that he doesn't walk people.

it wasn't only the pitchers who failed at clutch time: top of 9th bases loaded game tied with 1 out and we can't get the potentially winning runs in - let's share the futility a little.

Re: Saturday: Tied 7-7 in T9
True, and it was the top of the order that failed to deliver. However, big picture, 7 runs should be enough to win. Can't complain too much about the hitting overall. We're first in the SEC in hitting in all games (.328) and in conference games only (.310).charlestonalum wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 6:39 am it wasn't only the pitchers who failed at clutch time: top of 9th bases loaded game tied with 1 out and we can't get the potentially winning runs in - let's share the futility a little.

Re: Saturday: Tied 7-7 in T9
there is, of course, a difference in "hitting" and "clutch hitting" - analogy is being at the free throw line at end of game with tied score and miss 2 free throws (admittedly they have a good pitcher, but a hit might have won it) - I do not mean to excuse our terrible pitching in the 8th and 9th - just saying the whole team folded at crunch time: offense and pitching. Hope we learned the valuable lessons that no lead in the SEC is safe and execution is required until the very last out. If they didn't already know that, they sure learned it yesterday.
Re: Saturday: Tied 7-7 in T9
We need to see a little coaching out there. Pitching, batting, and base running not indicative of a number one team!
