Vandy vs. Depaul, Noon Today on ESPN3
Third game in three days for both teams. I haven't played a lick, but even my legs are feeling a bit dead this morning.
Depaul lost by seven to Arizona yesterday, but the game was tied after three quarters. Arizona had a 6-0 run midway through the fourth, and that basically decided the game. Depaul beat Rutgers 77-74 Thursday after leading by 18 in the second quarter. It was a lot like our game with Rutgers except Depaul let down a little bit earlier than we did, so Rutgers was able to make it closer.
Depaul presses full court the entire game and creates a lot of turnovers. They don't have a great physical advantage over us except for one exceptional player. They have outstanding scoring balance with players averaging 17, 15, 14, 13, 9 and 9. Their best player is a 6-1 freshman post, Aneesah Morrow, who is strong, quick, has explosive leaping ability and can really score. Lexi Held is a very good three-point shooter who will do some damage if we don't get to her. Arizona solved the problem by running her off the three-point line and held her to seven points.
Going into the tournament, I felt we'd do well to stay within 20 of Depaul. Now, after seeing how we've played, particularly on defense, I think it could be a closer game but, realistically, Depaul would have to be a pretty solid favorite.
Depaul is picked to finish second in the Big East behind UConn. Their only losses so far are to Texas A&M and Arizona.

How do you possibly lose a game by what's looking like 30 or more against a team that had 16 TOs in the FIRST QUARTER? I wonder if this program will ever be better than... well, the last 5-6 seasons.

Honestly seems like they ran out of gas. They defended and pressed so well to start the game. Credit DePaul for responding and breaking the press/limiting turnovers in second half. Not to mention stifling defense and rebounding presence. Good showing in the first half, though.

Of course they are going to get better than the last 5-6 teams.
Re: Vandy vs. Depaul, Noon Today on ESPN3
I didn't get to see or hear the game because we were doing family Thanksgiving today. Thanks for the posts . . . going back over them, I got a sense of what the game was like. All in all, I'd sum up the 3 games by saying 2 steps forward, 1 step back. I can live with that. Onward and upward!

OK First the loss wasn't by 30 points it was 17 74 to 91. The game was lost at the 3 point line. We were 6 for 22. they were 11 for 23. 15 of the 17 points are right there. They shot a lights out 47% from 3. Sonya Morris was incredible shooting 7 of 9 from deep. She won't be able to do that very often practicing in her own gym.
that is unconscious shooting. All other stats were similar across the board. Even the ridiculous 50 turnovers were split 26 us 24 them. right now we are athletically and vertically challenged as a team. therefore we are locked into the zone defense for the year. Teams that can shoot the 3 are going to be very difficult for us.
CSR's preferred defense is man to man and that will be the predominant defense until we improve athletically
