The nominated players are grouped by position...but not very well. Mistakes were made.

You know, this was somewhat fun but seriously, how careless, as in don’t give a darn, does the department putting this together have to be to group the players wrong? It’s sad really. And you let us vote for 3 kickers but 1 TE??? Anyway, unless I missed him, Jim Arnold wasn’t on the list which is a shame.

This was brutal. I didn’t vote for Jay at QB or Shelton Quarles at LB. That’s just wrong. Jim Arnold definitely was on the ballot I saw.

I did not vote (yet) but scrolled through. It will be interesting to see the generational divide in the voting. I suspect some younger fans will be inclined to vote heavily for those who played since say 1980 (random cut off). Others may be looking further back at individuals like Baby Ray and Bill Wade for VU greats, or Frank Mordica or men like that.

I was thinking the same thing. Who will remember Barry Burton, Dennis Harrison, or even Jim Arnold. Who will remember Will Wofford who at one time was the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL? Hope some do.

Pat Saindon is a good one. Definitely should have been on the list.

A few other omissions that came to mind: Brandon Barden, Ryan Hamilton, John Windham, Fitz Lassing (the FB spot was pretty barren).

It's funny how memory works. I followed VU sports intensely from the mid 70s on. I honestly don't remember Clark Lea playing but I remember Ernie "Goo Baby" Goolsby.

If VU was going to put out a list like this, then it should have been more carefully compiled. This one reflects badly on our Athletic Department.

While corrections have been made, they still have Corey Harris listed under the DBs. He played safety in the NFL but was an all-SEC RB in college.

Capping the LBs at three leaves off some very deserving players. A lot of very good ones.

No qualms with the actual list of players, but would've loved more opportunities to vote some guys in.

I sat next to Jim Arnold at the Notre Dame game in South Bend a few years ago. I told the rest of my party (who were all cheering for ND) what a legend they were sitting next to. They weren't impressed by sitting next to a VU punting legend, but I stand by my statement!

I remember Goolsby quite well….he was a load! “Goo Baby” was actually the nickname for Carl Woods, the former great running back, (‘83-87) who was from Gallatin.

Goolsby one of my favorites and definitely a load. Went to the game in Memphis in '82 and he had 100+ and on I believe three consecutive runs, Memphis Dbacks had to be helped from the field after collisions with Ernie.

Am I the only one who recalls his name, and the famous play, by Greer Rickettson?

You're right and thanks for the correction. My memory is worse than I thought....

I know about it, but jpmando, are you old enough to say you remember it?

If there were ever a list made of greatest PLAYS in stadium history, that one would surely belong.

OK, I may be the only one on here who hadn't heard of this (or maybe I had but had forgotten it) but you certainly piqued my interest.

Here's a VUAD article about the run, posted in 2007 on the 70th anniversary.

And here's the Tennessean coverage the next day.
Can't scamper or slither...but I used to swim.
