Inflection point?

Post by alathIN »

If you haven't already, check out the Dore Report podcast. Whatever your thoughts about airing dirty laundry, they went public with some player disgruntlement particularly on offense and particularly about the play calling.
This seems like a big challenge for HCCLea and the team culture he is trying to build and it will be interesting to see if he can, in his own words, "win the response."
Lea himself has had a couple of public comments that suggested he is not thrilled with the offensive play calling.

Can this Vanderbilt team beat South Carolina?
They have shown flashes and stretches of play good enough to beat a lower tier SEC team - but have yet to play well consistently for a whole game. Or even a half, really. The offense stats are mediocre-ish for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters... and utterly abysmal for the first quarter. The defensive stats basically say VU has a middling to fair defense on most snaps but gets killed on a small number of big plays.
And how many times over the years have we seen a Vanderbilt team show glimmers of decent play against upper tier competition (Stanford, Florida), then come out and look totally hopeless against a bad team?

Winning this game would be huge for the Lea regime and go a long way toward setting a positive tone for year one.
Losing a close game would have maybe a hint of that positivity.
Going out and getting murdered by the second worst team in the SEC would be decidedly not a good look.
