Hartford: UConn football team fell short vs. Wyoming, but ‘trending in right direction,’ Lou Spanos says

Post by BrentVU »

“At our team meeting today,” Spanos said, “we talked about the FBS teams we’ve played. Their record is 15-2, the opponents. We talked about where we started. We’re trending in the right direction. We had a lot of good in the game, and we’re ready to build on it.”

This overlooks a loss to an FCS team, Holy Cross, in Week 2, but the Huskies’ independent schedule hasn’t been forgiving. Fresno State, which beat UConn 45-0 in the opener, is 4-1, its only loss to Oregon, and ranked 18th in the AP Poll. Purdue, which beat the Huskies 49-0 on Sept. 11, is 3-1, its only loss to Notre Dame. Army and Wyoming are both 4-0.

The Huskies led Wyoming for nearly the entire game, before giving up two fourth-quarter touchdowns, one set up by a turnover. After scoring with 4 seconds left, they were a two-point conversion from forcing overtime.

Gotta at least appreciate a team that can feature “Tyler Phommachanh, the freshman quarterback from Stratford and Avon Old Farms …”

Avon Old Farms is a good sports school, as NHL HOFer Brian Leetch will attest.

We are still favored by 14. The line hasn't moved yet. This shows a lack of respect for the UConn defense since the over/under is 52. That translates to a 33-19 Vandy win.

Yes, UConn's offense is better than their defense, going by the most recent game...the actual score not withstanding. Their QB is fast and they have installed some trickery on offense. Glad they used some of it against Wyoming, so the cat is now out of the bag. Our former N.D. defensive guru head coach can show what he's made of. I would gladly see us win by 14 but...that's a big leap of faith.

ETSU is still unbeaten and ranked #15 in FCS for anybody who is wondering.
