Interesting takes from the Bleav in Vanderbilt Football podcast

Post by alathIN »

It is a very OL-centric podcast - mostly former Commodores who were OL in the NFL.
They said the OT played very well - high praise for Ashmore and especially for Steen - but the interior OL play was not good - the center and guards do not understand zone blocking. If the DL stunts they are lost and don't know who to block. Said the center has major problems in pass protection; got beat on basically every pass play.
QBs essentially had no chance because they had no time. Mike Wright started well but took a bad blind side hit "and he was never the same after that."
Receivers had no time to get open, again due to bad pass protection.
They thought Re Davis was pretty good but needs more patience to set up his blockers - often cutting back too soon (but that's partly on the interior O-line). Very impressed with Davis' pass blocking - but the other RBs were kind of the opposite.
They were extremely impressed with Davieon Davis. ETSU could do nothing in the middle due to Davis. Edges need work.
Very interesting podcast. Some it technical Xs Os beyond my understanding - but overall they sound like they know what they're talking about and a lot of interesting observations.
