Terrible two-minute offense by Mariotta in Colts game

Some quarterbacks are great in college but can't make it in the pros. This seems to be the situation with Marcus Mariotta now.

Sometimes he shows flashes of greatness but sometimes he makes bone-headed rookie-type mistakes.

Sunday in the Colts' loss he failed miserably in the two-minute offense. The Titans only needed about 30 yards to get in field goal range but Mariotta couldn't do it.

First off he throws a 3-yard pass to his tight end. WHY??? The tight end isn't going to run for a first down or a big gain in that situation. That was a waste of 20 seconds. The tight end was tackled immediately and the Titans had no more time outs so they burned time getting lined back up to run another play. Mariotta should have thrown it into the ground or out of bounds and stopped the clock in that situation.

Then on 3rd-and-2 Mariotta spiked the ball. WHY??? That puts you in fourth down, a completion you absolutely have to complete -- and he couldn't do it, and the game was over. Plus it gave the Colts a chance to get into their defensive alignment. If Mariotta had hurried up and run a play on 3rd down and instead of spiking the ball the Colts weren't set defensively, Mariotta would probably have had a receiver open for a big gain -- or throw it to Henry out of the backfield for a big gain.

These are rookie-type mistakes. Mariotta is not a rookie.

Plus all the continual throwing behind the receivers. He misses open receivers all the time.

Mariota has been overrated and over hyped since he came out of college. Still making rookie mistakes still not seeing the field for release valve receivers when in trouble. Too one receiver focused most times. At least he hasn't gotten hurt.............yet.

titans were offered a boatload of proven players plus draft picks for the pick they used on Mary Oder. But as I told people at the time, you can't fit "a large number of proven players plus future draft picks" neatly on a bumper sticker and even if you could, it wouldn't make a catchy marketing campaign slogan.
