Practice started at 7:15 but a Tornado warning got the guys off the field early into practice until 7:30.

All three QBs looked fairly sharp. I saw less of Shurmur though. Deuce is the most mobile of the three and had a nice pass to Pinkney and a TD pass to Ellis. Stankavage had a TD pass to Rivers. It was a short pass reception and Rivers got away from defenders. Shurmur had a couple of completions to Duncan. I saw Hardin and Sean Auwae both playing some center. Mostly Hardin.

Defensively, Josh Smith had a TFL of Deuce. The Smith bros were both playing some ILB as was Hockaday. Didn't see much of Ralph Webb. He caught a pass from Shurmur early in the practice. Later, he had a carry and went around the left side of the line. Jay Woods chased him down and started to throw him to the turf but then attempted to hold Webb up. I hadn't seen Derek Mason for the entire practice. During preseason drills Mason was very active talking on the PA system. None of that on Wednesday. Back to Woods and Webb, Woods half threw Webb on the turf, suddenly I see Mason bolting from the sideline and grabbing Woods' jersey, screaming, "Just let him go, Just let him go". It was actually a little different verbiage than that, if you can imagine.

I also wanted to share that I saw what appeared to be several visiting coaches from Syracuse observing our practice, namely the defense. In the photo below you can see a couple of them standing in the background. I both like the idea of this and dislike it at the same time. I like that other team's staffs are impressed with our defense and want to learn about it. However, I'd also like for us to keep things a secret. You never know, we could be playing Syracuse in a bowl next season. I'm sure Mason isn't giving them all the details.
