Re: CJS is something like CKS 2.0
I’m not sure he will be judged by his overall conference record. If he doesn’t produce a winning SEC record in the next couple of years, I think his seat will be hot. But if the trajectory is right, and the recruiting looks good, his overall record will (and should) be explained by the absolute mess...

Re: Vanderbilt-Florida thread
SJP looked absolutely unenthused to be in there after his first half foul trouble. LIttle wonder Stack sat him for a long stretch in the second half too. If he can’t be interested in the game when he’s not scoring, sit him more. I Ike the kid and hope he stays, but he we honestly weren’t any worse t...

Re: My experiences meeting Vanderbilt coaches
I went to Vanderbilt’s summer basketball camp in 1989 or 1990. Coach Fogler was there every day and actually talked to the campers, usually in the afternoon session. The instructors were some actual players like Derek Wilcox and Scott Draud (among other assistant coaches and managers). None of us go...

If you have a subscription to the ESPN+ streaming, SECN+ should be included. It’s well worth the $6/month (I think that’s what it is).

VCU is down by 2 at #6 Baylor at the half. They might be inconsistent, but clearly they can hang with top programs.

Re: More from AD Lee on the facilities plans
What is the issue with paperless tickets? How many fans that don’t have a smart phone are they running off? I live in DC and the Wizards/Caps/Nationals have been paperless for years. I think it’s purpose is to force scalpers to use Ticketmaster or StubHub or whatever platform their league is in bed ...

Re: When did VU concessions stop taking cash?
2 reasons I can think of this makes sense from an economic perspective. 1. Sanitation. Paper money and coins are germ transmitters, especially in a concession area where there a lot of small transactions. It’s a big reason that even credit card transactions are contactless now. This is not COVID spe...

The competition did not seem stiff. His team seemed to be up by 30-50 points in most of the video. Still glad to have him, though.

Re: Howard Pride is Stewart Creek basketball coach
Good for Howard. A quick point of order - Howard played under VBK. He was the only player recruited by Folger who came to Vanderbilt after Fogler left for SC. He had some injury issues during his career (foot problems IIRC.) Howard graduated in 1997. I know this because we are classmates & were...

Re: Thoughts on Texas and Oklahoma?
Ah ok. No I’ve heard jokes about military inferiority. I think they’re funny. I just didn’t get the seque from school sports. The French have 4 defense threat levels: run, hide, collaborate, surrender How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris from invading armies? No one knows; no Frenchmen ha...

Ummm, they do. I believe it’s the largest in the EU. But what on earth does that have to do with scholastic sports.

Re: Thoughts on Texas and Oklahoma?
I admit my realignment is totally divorced from reality. It was intended to be. I’m fully aware this will never, ever happen. While we’re at it, I’d greatly diminish the role of money in college sports if I could. That is what has perverted the missions of universities. But realistically I don’t see...

Re: Thoughts on Texas and Oklahoma?
From a purely sports perspective, it obviously strengthens the SEC in pretty much all revenue sports. That said, sports at a university are supposed to a tangential extracurricular, not its central mission. I feel like Vanderbilt was an outlier back when the SEC was 10, before Ark and SC joined. The...

Re: Game One Starters?
Why would no one think that Chatman, who started for a 29 win team, might just be good enough to start for a team that struggled to get double digit wins? Many of us on this thread had Chatman as a starter. Guess I should have said "why would YOU" instead of why would nobody. No you, but ...

Re: Game One Starters?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Jordan Wight starts at the 4 spot. I kinda like this too. Having seen so few of our players actually play, my based-on-nothing-except-my-own-gut prediction for who will get the lions share of minutes by mid season: PG: Pippen SG: Dezonie G/F: Dorsey F: Jordan Wright C: Ro...

I wasn’t hating on him. I hope he’s a huge success. I miss the days of players that have his apparent skill set being big contributors. I just doesn’t seem like that is where college hoops is these days.

Re: Another transfer: Akeem Odusipe enters the portal
I hope Presley Patterson proves me wrong, but from one of his highlight videos he looks like a spot up shooter with no lift and a low release point. Like a poor man’s Brandon Plavich. Nothing against spot up shooters; we’ve had success over the years with teams stocked with them. But could he get th...
