Re: Things that really stood out
It is a much longer list to draw the distinctions between vanderbilt and Stanford than the similarities. Mason didn't understand that. Shaw's answer was lame in trying to explain the difference. I really didn’t see any similarities to Stanford’s offense and the offense Mason tried to run at Vanderb...

Re: James Franklin addresses rumors in connection with USC opening
Does USC really think that an established coach is going to quit his current team two games into the season and start coaching at USC? No sensible coach would do that. I heard Urban Meyer is also high on the list. After signing the huge contract that he did with the Jacksonville Jaguars, does anyone...

Re: UT getting Nashville area recruiting commits
Sometimes kids are UT fans their whole lives (gag) and it's their lifelong dream to play for UT (retch). I'm surprised about Hunter High from Lipscomb Academy signing with UT. His father used to be the associate athletic director at Lipscomb University. I would have thought he would have been a shoo...

Re: Not often SEC East is led by...
I do think Kentucky got a great coach in Stoops. I wondered if they made a good choice when they hired him but he has gotten the job done. Kentucky's never going to win the SEC East, but they have winning records and go to bowl games consistently. They have had a few 5-win seasons under Stoops, but ...

Pierce reaches around CSU defender and makes one-handed catch
That was one of the most amazing catches I’ve ever seen in any level of football. The defender had him blanketed and Chris reached around him and grabbed it with one hand!

Re: Mason 2.0 ?
Let me go on the record as saying the coach demeanor does not determine the outcome of games. There are too many examples of winning coaches who command enormous self-control but are still systematic thinkers, tacticians and winners. Time will tell, but I think Roy Skinner, CM Newton, and Tim Corbi...

Re: Mason 2.0 ?
Another problem of Mason was that he gave his OC and DC positions to his friends, not the best candidates for the jobs. This was especially true when Mason’s first OC was his longtime friend from Northern Arizona and he turned out to be totally inept. In fact, IIRC, he and his OC friend argued throu...

Re: Big mistake
On one play, I was screaming at my TV, and I’m not even a Clemson fan. Georgia punted the ball. At first it appeared the punt was partially blocked and the Clemson defender roughed the kicker after he punted the ball. But the Clemson receiver caught it and ran out of bounds. Right after he went out ...

Re: Big mistake
Georgia got away with holding receivers, pass interferences, roughing the quarterback after he had already passed the ball, and hits to the head when players were going out of bounds.

Re: "If you have 2 QBs, you don't have 1"
Well we could only play one of the quarterbacks and the other one would hit the transfer portal to go somewhere he could be a starter. Then if the quarterback got injured our backup would be someone very inexperienced and not at the same level as Seals or Wright. Both Seals and Wright are quality SE...

Re: From the WayBack Machine: early games in coaching tenures
DiNardo’s first game in his coaching career was at Syracuse. Syracuse was always a Top 25 team back then. We lost, but the game was closer than I would have expected for three quarters. They blew it open in the fourth quarter so the final score looked like a blowout but we actually played competitiv...

Re: Do You Miss Mason Yet?
Golddore68, it wasn't Mason that "mouthed off about how we were going to do the same thing against Alabama." It was then-prized recruit Nifae Lealeo. Yes. I was thinking of the South Carolina game when Mason told everyone it was going to be “smash-mouth football.” Well, the only ones who ...

Re: I'm actually kind of surprised it took this long to lose to an FCS team
MTSU is not that much bigger than ETSU but we lost to MTSU four times when Woody and CBJ were our coaches.
And I’m surprised that UT’s loss to Georgia State didn’t classify as a loss to a FCS school.

Re: Do You Miss Mason Yet?
Mason beat teams like ETSU and MTSU in his tenure because of his strategy of power running game. He would line up and run it down team’s throats. But that strategy wouldn’t have worked this year with the weaknesses we have with our offensive line and running back. Mason’s best year, we started out 3...

Re: Howard Pride is Stewart Creek basketball coach
Update: I checked and saw Stewarts Creek was 13-11 last season, Howard Pride’s first year coaching. That doesn’t sound too impressive, until you realize it’s Stewarts Creek’s first winning season since the 2014-2015 season. The last five years they’ve been 10-18, 11-18, 5-25, 12-20 and 9-21. In the ...

Howard Pride is Stewart Creek basketball coach
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.dnj.com/amp/5176413002 I don’t know if there’s been a thread about this yet. He was a star at Vanderbilt in the Stallings era. He coached in Huntsville Ala., and now is moving back to Middle Tennessee to coach at Stewarts Creek. Good luck to him. The district he’s in...

Re: New non-conference opponent: Pitt
They have a great children’s museum. Most of it is devoted to Mister Rogers, who was from Pittsburgh. They have sweaters he wore and puppets he used. There is also a really neat incline train that takes you to the top of a hill. It reminded me of Gatlinburg. From the top of the hill you get a fantas...

Who will vote NO in the SEC meeting on Texas & Oklahoma?
Jared Stillman was talking about this last week on his radio show and his arguments made sense. He said there is a possibility three SEC teams will vote NO on Texas and Oklahoma joining the conference. That would keep them from being able to join, as there have to be YES votes from 12 of the teams. ...

Re: Alabama quarterback paid 7 figures already and he has never played
I wonder if this could lead to discrimination lawsuits. Say Billy Bob Chevy in Tuscaloosa is paying the quarterback $25,000 to appear on a billboard promoting his cars. If there is a women’s basketball player who also is chosen to endorse cars by Billy Bob Chevy, and he only pays her $3,000 to appea...

Re: Alabama quarterback paid 7 figures already and he has never played
Nick Saban can’t be happy about this. He’s an old-school coach. He preaches dedication, being focused, no distractions. His quarterback is now being distracted by all this money thrown at him. Instead of spending time solely on the practice field devoted to learning and executing all the plays, the ...
