Re: Stute into the portal
That would really be a slap in the face if he stayed in the SEC. Honestly, I don't understand why. Arkansas ... NC State ... Georgetown ... to me they re all just "somewhere that's not Vandy". Now if he transferred to UT that would be different, but if we're categorizing the entire SEC as...

Re: How is your bracket ?
In my work pool I was the only person who picked UCLA to go all the way. So as long as UCLA is alive, my bracket is great.
Now matter how many other teams lose.
Or if it practically seems like all of them do...

I've been to many events where there is flag hanging and fans are directed toward it, and the anthem is played over the speakers but there is no color guard.historybill wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 4:15 pm
I don't think I've ever been to a high school, college or pro sporting event where there wasn't a color guard.

Re: Should the NCAA Tournament be expanded?
A) Teams must finish at least .500 in their conference to be eligible for an at large bid. B) Automatic bids are now awarded for BOTH regular season and conference tournament champions. I agree with #1. #2: The conference decides. The reason for a conference tourney is to determine the auto bid. Pl...

Re: Should the NCAA Tournament be expanded?
What I have no interest in an expanded tournament that STILL manages to screw over good mid/low major teams while the committee suddenly starts talking themselves into why a team that finished 6-12 or 5-13 in a major conference deserves a bid. My long standing opinion is that I am OK with expanding ...

Renaming the NIT
So, the NCAA has the "Sweet 16" and the "Elite 8" and the "Final 4" Now that we are in the round of 16 of the NIT ... what is the appropriate way to refer to these in the NIT? I'm proposing the "Semi-Sweet 16", the "Eh 8" and the ... you know, I real...

You know, I used to always think that "having your work cut out for you" meant something was going to be easier than usual. Because, you know, someone already cut it out for you. It's like they did have the job - the cutting - already, and now you just need to do the rest! I never quite un...

Re: Stute into the portal
So what’s the wisdom, if any, behind setting that date to open the portal? Why not the day after the NCAA tournament ends? (I just couldn’t put “NCAA” and “wisdom” in the same sentence) Question asked and answered. And while we're at it, can we also forbid NCAA football teams from interviewing or h...

Math guy wrote: “‘It's just the way the game is played these days. He didn't quit on our team any more than the myriad football players who skip mid-tier bowl games to reduce the risk of injury prior to the NFL draft” I have to disagree with this thought. The football players give up their last gam...

Re: Stute into the portal
Does not finishing a season with one team reflect poorly when trying to get offered to another team? Would this not be like walking out on a job without a standard two weeks notice? Something tells me the staff didn’t know about his desire to transfer a couple weeks ago. I find it hard for him to r...

Re: Did we play like a tournament team?
Jason, this might be the most subjective analysis I’ve ever seen you make. I would like your statistically-based analysis on a few of these assessments, since you are very much a numbers guy, and you, yourself, stated above that others are using the “look test.” So far that is the analysis you’ve p...

He needed to get a jump start to secure a spot on the Sun Belt team that he chooses? I don't understand announcing the morning of a game, either. I suppose he has his reasons. I think it's probably best for both parties involved, to be honest. I wish him the best, hope it works out for him. Thankfu...

Re: Stute into the portal
Since a record 173 guys entered the portal in one day alone...an all time record...maybe his timing was motivated by a beat the rush strategy because the flood of names will continue for a while. There are lots of schools that won't have a Colin Smith level forward ready to take his minutes. I woul...

I don't know that we were punished so much as what we had done up until that point in no way was reflective of a team anywhere near a tournament team. And I guess I don't understand how it was determined that we were so superior to MSU. We beat them head to head, but it was a home game and we shoul...

Re: Vanderbilt vs. Miss State
Supposedly “how you finish” is looked at by the committee. Help it make sense. This is one thing: The committee removed the "last 10 games" as a criteria for consideration several years ago. So the committee is specifically NOT supposed to say "Vandy won 10 of 11, WOW!" ... they...

Re: What is the answer that the NCAA has for...
Well, their answer would probably be something like: If Clemson and Vandy want to leave their conferences and see if they can produce the same strength of schedule and opportunities for Quadrant 1 wins as an independent or member of a weaker conference, they are welcome to try. The less snarky answe...

Re: 4th Best in SEC
Yup.
And while I realize that, in some cases, the unbalanced schedules in leagues can make comparing teams by conference record weird ... in our case? The 3 teams in the SEC that the committee judged to be best by NCAA seeding are ALL teams we had to play twice!!
