Re: New commitment: F JaQualon Roberts

He's a 6-6 195 lb. rising senior from Bloomington, IN. He also had offers from Indiana, Iowa, Butler, Marquette, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech, among others. Boy, JaQualon's ratings and measurements are pretty widely varied. I've seen him rated as three-star (Rivals, 247) to four-star (Verbalcom...

Re: Summer league guys of local interest

nesmith and ayton could be a sweet 1-2 punch if he can set aaron up with some catch and shoot 3s Yeah, Ayton's no longer a possibility for the Pacers. (Because Phoenix matched Indiana's offer sheet, he can't be traded to any team for six months and to Indiana for 12 months--and even then only if he...

Re: Summer league guys of local interest

I don’t know whether any of you saw it, but there’s a highlight clip of SPjr driving for a falling-down And 1 that he makes before crashing to the floor in the photographer’s pit on the baseline. Two teammates and a rather famous basketball star immediately helped him up. LeBron was a little too vig...

Re: Keonte Kennedy Reportedly Going To Memphis

FYI, guys. The NBA draft isn't what it used to be. There are a few reasons why, but essentially the biggest one is because the game has changed so much that scouting is less effective overall. Second, the complexities of the salary cap and the new popularity of the two-way contract has really chang...

Re: Isaiah West picks Vandy

Awesome get, we've been after him forever. Per Jason's other post, there's seemingly a logjam at the PG position and it's inevitable that we're going to see some transfers at the 1. We need some large SG that can also play the 3 next! Yeah - that there is a logjam isn't a reason to be against getti...

Re: Damian Jones signs with the Lakers

In other NBA news, but not worth it’s own thread, Nesmith is getting traded to the Pacers Might as well. Wasn't playing for the Celtics. And now that they no longer have Brogdon, the Pacers could use a player of his sort. But he's on the last year of his rookie contract, so he really needs to fix h...

Re: NBA draft is tonight

I liked the Vince Williams late pick (VCU) more than Roddy. Williams had a good game vs Vandy last season - 14 points included 4-8 from three. He shot 39% and 41% from 3 the last two seasons. At 6-6 and 210 he's the classic big guard / small forward. Roddy at 261 pounds looks like an NFL middle lin...

Re: Pacers host Vanderbilt's Scotty Pippen Jr

Plus he seems like a Mike Brown kind of player (if he can defend better and pass without turning it over). Brown is coach for the Kings, right? Yeah, my bad. I was picturing Darwin Ham (whom I still always picture pulling down the entire basket stanchion against North Carolina) but wrote Mike Brown.

Re: NBA draft is tonight

So I know you're a Memphis fan, Mr. Memorial. What did you think of how the Grizzlies did? I thought trading two picks to move up for LaRavia was... interesting. I suppose it's possible they had intel that somebody else might take him before they could. He seems like a possible keeper, but it's hard...

Re: NBA draft is tonight

I was shocked that Oscar Tshiebwe did not enter the draft. Woulda been a top 5 pick? Oh well, will probably make more $ in Lexington. Yeah, the NBA is in a weird place with big men right now. Guys who can't cover NBA wings in space (and how many true big men can?) will get "played off the floo...

Re: Pacers host Vanderbilt's Scotty Pippen Jr

It looks like he landed in a pretty good situation. He's signed a two-way deal with the Lakers. The Lakers are desperately in need of complementary players to piece around LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and (likely) Russell Westbrook. Scotty will need to work hard to become more efficient as a catch-a...

I guess I missed the part where college basketball was ever an amateur sport. I mean, maybe at the intramural level, sure. But these guys have always been professionals: A full scholarship to Vanderbilt has been over $100,000 for a long time.

Re: ESPN: Best SEC transfers IN and OUT ...

Out… John Amechi (Penn St) & Matt Maloney (Penn): both with ultimately a cup of coffee in the NBA. If I’m not mistaken they both left the same year. Don’t ask me how I remember this but Amechi scored the 100th point against UT the year Vandy won at home against a Wade/A. Houston team, 108-68 Ab...

Re: ESPN: Best SEC transfers IN and OUT ...

I agree that Billy McCaffrey was best. I don't think there's any question about it, both in terms of team success and individual success--and I've long been on the Derrick-Byars-is-criminally-underrated bandwagon. And, frankly, I've also always thought that Billy McCaffrey got too much credit for t...

Complaining???? I believe COVID has infiltrated your brain….we’ve all had it..you’ll survive!! Wow. I'm not sure what planet you're living on. But I personally have lost eight friends to it, and yet that's not even a drop in the bucket compared to the conservative (i.e. government-reported) account...

Re: Gabe Dorsey enters the transfer portal

Not sure we want to go that route Please explain…I know nothing about him. I'm not the expert, but he was a top 3 HS player who went to Memphis. Was supposed to be one and done, but missed some games, and wasn't all that great when he was on the floor. So he's sort of a high-talent, high drama, low...

Re: Watching Kansas-Villanova

McCormack is the difference. My early Xmas wish is for Robbins and QMB to get some Ed Martin style tutoring. Maybe Perdue? Kornet? Frank or Luke? I think Luke will be quite busy with the NBA playoffs. Boston's starting center, Robert Williams III (of Texas A&M), is expected to be out for 4-6 we...

Damian Jones

I don't know whether anybody else has noticed, but Damian Jones is having himself a heck of a run in Sacramento. It's unfortunately too late for the team, but he finally seems to have attracted the attention of ESPN, which featured him in their write-up on the Kings for this week's Power Rankings: 2...

Re: Mission Accomplished? I vote yes.

I'm a bit concerned about the current guard situation for next year if Pippen doesn't return, and a little concerned even if he does return. But our frontcourt should be very, very good and really deep. If Dort is as good as we think he is, you could see Robbins playing a bit of the 4 next season a...
