Re: Non-conference schedule released

Of course the brainpower behind the NCAA selection committee will communicate how important a challenging OOC schedule is this year about midway through the season. The metrics seem to change every year. There have been multiple explainers that note that date of the game was removed from considerat...

Re: Non-conference schedule released

Seems pretty simple like last season. There will be 4 games that will be challenging - NCSU, ASU/BYU, Tx Tech, and at Memphis. We actually need to win a couple of those games (last season we went 0-fer in our challenging games of NCSU, St. Mary's Memphis and VCU, which was as big of an issue as us l...

Re: Unofficial chatter

It hurts high school and juco players as well. Why recruit those guys when you can find players who have already been in a D1 program w the weight training and training table advantages? It likely just means that HS and JUCO players will find homes initially at the lower ranks of D1 that have been ...

ADCSL Interview

https://omny.fm/shows/forklift-systems-football-saturday/forklift-systems-football-saturday-8-19-23 This was posted on the other board, but at around 36 minutes CSL discusses NIL that relates to the discussion that we had about Tyrin Lawrence earlier. She basically confirmed that the Athletic depart...

Re: Unofficial chatter

With most universities starting classes in the coming weeks, of all the athletes that have committed to a new program, 1 out of 12 players who transferred this year went up in the portal, the rest have either transferred lateral or down. With most of the rosters finalized, 45% of players who entere...

Re: Strange time to be playing a football game against Hawaii

As I understand it, the fires are on the island of Maui, and the university (which is on Oahu) has not been affected. However, the Lahaina Civic Center, where the basketball Dores have played several times in the Maui Classic, was very much in jeopardy at last report. https://www.sportingnews.com/u...

Re: Video: Coach Stackhouse, Tyrin Lawrence, Ezra Manjon press conferences Wed. Aug. 9

I could be completely wrong, but I wouldn't bet against JRT seeing a lot of time on the floor this season. If he's getting a lot of minutes at the 1 or 2, that means we're gonna be nasty, because we're already solid there. I would guess his minutes would be at the 2/3 due to his height and length. ...

Re: Video: Coach Stackhouse, Tyrin Lawrence, Ezra Manjon press conferences Wed. Aug. 9

Stackhouse's interviews are always interesting to me. I feel like he is more genuine than most of the other head coaches. I also think Jason Rivera-Torres is getting the opportunity for media exposure because he is an "actor". He is already very experienced in front of a microphone. You c...

Re: Video: Coach Stackhouse, Tyrin Lawrence, Ezra Manjon press conferences Wed. Aug. 9

Coach Jerry Stackhouse Tyrin Lawrence, Ezra Manjon The vandysports podcast pointed out how unusual it was that CJS had Jason Rivera-Torres take part of media availability - a true freshman who hasn't played in a single game! It is difficult to believe that CJS would do so for a player he doesn't th...

Re: More new staff announced

Does that put us over 50? You're ridiculous. That's only 47 people on staff. ;) While it does seem like we have a lot of staff now, roster building is a much more demanding endeavor than before as it is not uncommon to have to replace over half of the roster each season. Not only that, but the pool...

Re: Matchups announced for Vegas Showdown, Nov. 23 & 24

Vandy faces perennial neutral site opponent NC State in game 1 and will face either BYU or Arizona State the next day in Las Vegas. https://twitter.com/TheLVShowdown/status/1688977516520701955 We just faced two of those teams in the last couple of seasons. We faced ASU at home in 2019 (the season w...

Re: tyler tanner

Said it before and I'll say it again. The best team we've had since I've started following Vandy basketball (which, sadly, was 1994 ... one year too late), was a team that played a 6-5 guard at power forward and a 6-9 9pt/5reb guy at center. If the team is good, I don't care that we're small. That ...

Re: tyler tanner

2024 commit, 6'0" PG from Brentwood, TN CJS sure does like his PGs. That will have next year with Lewis, West, Balil and now Tanner at the PG spot. Tanner was not particularly heavily recruited, so perhaps he is a diamond in the rough. I assume that we will be letting at least one of the playe...

Re: New videoboard coming to the Gym next season

Spend that money for some AC! Or a decent PA / sound system. For sure on the A/C. As for the sound system, that’s an interesting conundrum in that space. I’m by no means a sound engineer, but as an avid amateur musician who has sound-treated my basement for use as a rehearsal/recording space, I kno...

Re: James Strong named as new assistant coach

Stallings loved Strong for his fearlessness. Stallings’s first summer here, I believe the team was going on a trip abroad so they could have summer practices. It was the first time Stallings was able to get on the court with his new team. In one of the first practices, Stallings said Michael Leblan...

Here's a highlight of Allen-Lubin going baseline at the end of the 3rd quarter: https://twitter.com/usabjnt/status/1673700174135459840 Lubin was a really great get. Besides his numbers being very nice, you can see an athleticism and springiness that we don't have a ton of, or certainly didn't in ou...

https://vanderbilt.rivals.com/news/vanderbilt-adds-texas-a-m-transfer-jordan-williams I'm not quite sure I understand this addition. I don't see him as a better prospect than West, and we already have Manjon, Lewis and West at the PG position. I'm also not following how he fits from a scholarship s...
