This morning, in the first round of the Wyndham Golf Championship (Greensboro, NC), Brandt Snedeker fired a sizzling 59 (32-27). He actually bogeyed his first hole and did not birdie until #4. Then he was on fire. Birdies on 4, 5, 6, 7, then 10, 11, 12, 14, Eagle on 15, then birdies on 16 and 18. What a round. See the Golf Channel later today for more details. Good for Brandt!! Go Vandy.

Wow! I read that he is only the 10th PGA golfer in history to have an under 60 round in any tournament, and the first to ever do it with a bogey at #1. Let's hope he can continue this play, because he could sure use a win.

Note, he played the back nine first, so he was amazing on holes 1-9. I don't think I have ever seen an eagle like this one on #6 (15th hole played).

He still leads on Saturday, and he is 2 under through 7 holes and 16 under, which is 3 shots ahead of Brian Gay.

Not sure how much more will be played today. Rain/lightning delay has lasted several hours now, and there are still storms in the area.

They just replayed his shot on 2. Amazing long putt from off the green for a birdie.

Bogeys on 11 and 12 hurt Sneds, but he still has a slim 1-shot lead after just finishing the 3rd round.

He has to play much better to win this tourney. Four of the six players that are within three had 3rd rounds that were 4 or more shots better than Brandt's.

Yep. A repeat of yesterday's 68 will be good for maybe 5th or 6th at the end of today's play.

He is 2 under through 6 as the TV coverage on CBS begins with a 1 shot lead. Just keep plugging away with no mistakes.

Big birdie on 8 to take a 2 shot lead.

Brandt is just missing his birdie chances. He is tied with CT Pan at -19 going into 11, though Brandt had a nice drive on 11.

Nice birdie on 11 to take the lead back at -20.

Brandt finally made a mistake, not hitting his putt long enough on 13. A bogey puts him is a 3 way tie for the lead with Pan and Simpson.

He did have a monster drive on 14, so hopefully he can get the lead back soon. Simpson hits his tee shot into the woods on 18 and had to lay up.

Simpson bogeys and finishes at 18 under. Looks like it will be between Pan and Sneds.

Pan misses a makeable eagle putt on 15, but takes the lead for now at 20 under. Sneds should get at least a birdie on 15 (2 birdies and an eagle this week). His drive on 15 was perfect.

He may have lost the tourney on his 2nd shot on 15. :( He mishit it into the rough off the green. He needs a big up and down to get a birdie.

Whew! He knocked it a few feet from the cup and made his birdie to tie the lead again.

Brandt's problem right now is that he is pulling every iron shot. Another really long putt for birdie on 16.

Brandt will par 16 and Pan missed his 14 foot birdie on 17. Brandt has parred 17 and 18 every round, but a birdie on either hole has a good chance to be a winner.

Sneds by the cart path on 17. :( But Pan hits his way right on 18, likely out of bounds.

Snedeker is in great shape now. He just needs a bogey or better on #18 to win it, and his drive was fine.

He is on the green in #2.

And he birdies!!!! Win #9 on the PGA Tour!!

Good for Brandt. Lots of pressure on him to hold the lead for three days after the 59. Played like a champ. He hit the ball well all week. Hit lots of greens and came close on many, many birdie putts (the ones he did not make). The bermuda rough on the Greensboro course was thick and wiry - causing challenging approach shots if you were just off the fairway. Brandt handled them well. This was a par 70 course with only two par fives. For the eight par fives, Brandt was 9 under par (7 birdies and an eagle). Pretty good. His course management was excellent. Lots of greens that sloped sharply back to front, so Brandt consistently kept the ball below the hole. In late Spring, Brandt was practically a non-factor and outside the FedEx Cup range. Now he is # 30 and going strong. He never gave up. Go Vandy!

Snedeker qualified for the FedEx Cup last year, but his lingering injury shut him down for the season. He is one of 13 to qualify for the FedEx Cup every year since its inception.

He can play Donald Ross courses well.
