Small pitched Saturday and would be throwing on the sixth day. He could return for a potential Game 3 of the finals on the fifth day after pitching.
Pilkington, the usual Saturday starter and a high draft choice, would start Game 1 of the finals if Small won today.
However, State decided to go with the #3 guy -- Billingsley -- with the 4.92 ERA. A baserunning gaffe by OSU got Billingsley out of the first inning with only one run allowed.
