Has anybody noticed this before

Postby BelleVUe » Tue Jun 05, 2018 1:31 pm

We had friends visit us from New Mexico over the weekend. When they returned to Santa Fe Monday night, they called to tell us that when they opened their suitcases, their clothes reeked of moldy/mildew odor.

Does this happen to others? Is it that our house might be moldy, and we cannot smell it since we live in it every day, or is this a Nashville thing? Has anybody else noticed this before? Any suggestions as to what to do about it? We see no visual evidence of mold, and none of our Nashville neighbors smell it when they are in our house. We live up about as high in Davidson County as you can get, at over 1,000 feet in elevation.

No smells here....might need to call a mold specialist and check under your house if you have space underneath.

Bellevue, I want to second Nashmann's suggestion here. Especially since you've earlier reported that you're having serious allergy problems yourself. Is that happening to you inside your house, as opposed to only when you're outside?

I have to wonder, worst-case scenario, about a scenario where the folks who sold your new Nashville house to you knew they had toxic mold in the walls, etc. of the house, & got out of it by selling it to you without disclosing what they knew. Lawsuit city.

Thanks Vebilt. We had a professional do a walk-through to make a list of things that needed to be corrected prior to signing the closing papers, but mold was not part of his report. We have a full basement that is filled with my wife's many hobbies, and I haven't noticed any odor down there other than a trace of chlorine, since our pool products are stored in a closet.

This is a goofy thing. We cannot smell any mold in our house when we are in it. Visitors don't smell it either. We can smell some mold on our balcony after it rains, but it is not the same smell that could be smelled in clothes and suitcases when they returned to NM.

As for our allergies, they have somewhat cleared up in the last two weeks. We were told that this happens to many people around Memorial Day when the worst of the pollen season begins to dissipate. And, they occurred just about everywhere in the city.

We supposedly have a company coming Tuesday the 19th to investigate.

There is one and only one good thing about being totally congested in the nose--no sense of taste, and thus you don't overeat, because it isn't pleasurable. Thus, you lose weight, and 10 pounds came off in April and early May. Now, it is a challenge to keep them off this summer, which is not easy when your wife is such a good cook.

Have a blessed Friday.
