JJ Bleday, RF, 6-3, 205, Panama City Beach, Fla.

Weekly totals: 4G/4GS, 19 AB, 3 R, 8 H, 1-2B, 2 RBI

Led Vanderbilt to a three-game sweep in Starkville as part of a 3-1 week while batting .421 (8-for-19) in four starts.

Produced multi-hit performances in three-of-four games including going 4-for-9 during the team’s first two victories in Starkville to capture the series.

Scored a run in three games while drawing a walk and stealing one base.



Pitcher of the Week Nominee

Drake Fellows, RHP, 6-5, 205, Plainfield, Ill.

Weekly totals: 1G/1GS, 1-0 W-L, 6.0IP, 3H, 0R/0ER, 5BB, 7K

Shut out Mississippi State in the SEC opener at Dudy Noble Field on Friday night, limiting the Bulldogs to three hits in six innings.

Led the Commodores to their first shutout in Starkville since April 12, 2008.

Struck out seven-plus hitters for the fourth-straight outing while limiting 24 Mississippi State batters to a .158 batting average while tossing 96 pitches.



Freshman of the Week Nominee

Austin Martin, DH/LF, 6-0, 170, Jacksonville, Fla.

Weekly totals: 4G/4GS, 14 AB, 4 R, 7 H, 2-2B, 1 RBI, 2 SB

Posted a .611 on-base percentage, totaling nine bases to highlight a 7-for-14 (.500) week in four starts for the Commodores.

Finished 3-for-5 as part of a 10-1 victory at Mississippi State on Saturday while scoring two runs and adding a stolen base to help secure the series.

Went 2-for-4 with a run and his second double in as many days while swiping another bag in a 4-3 victory to clinch the program’s first sweep in Starkville since 2010.



Commodore Notes

Vanderbilt recovered from its midweek loss to sweep Mississippi State on SEC Opening Weekend … The Dores outscored the Bulldogs, 19-4, while recording the program’s first sweep in Starkville since 2010 … Vandy posted a 1.33 ERA and limited MSU to a .194 batting average … Vanderbilt stranded the bases loaded on three different occasions and was limited most of the night by Eastern Kentucky pitching in a 6-5 loss on Wednesday … The Commodores, who threw nine different pitchers for one inning apiece, were saddled with a four-run deficit after three innings, thanks to three RBIs from Alex Holderbach … Vanderbilt received timely two-out production and rode starting pitcher Drake Fellows to a 5-0 victory against No. 19 Mississippi State in the Southeastern Conference opener on Friday night … Seven different players recorded hits and eight total reached base for the Commodores, who blanked the Bulldogs for the first time in Starkville since April 12, 2008 … Six of the Dores’ 10 hits in the victory came with two outs with four of the five runs crossing the plate with two away … Vanderbilt limited Mississippi State’s offense in crucial situations and broke open a one-run game, scoring seven times in the eighth as part of a 10-1 series-clinching victory on Saturday … The Dores batted .583 (7-for-12) with runners in scoring position and sent 11 batters to the plate while collecting seven hits and as many runs in the eighth … Vandy plated four runs on four hits with two outs in the frame and batted .417 (5-for-12) with two down on the afternoon … The Dores return to action on Tuesday, taking on Belmont at Nashville’s First Tennessee Park at 6:30 p.m. … Vandy welcomes LSU for a three-game series beginning Friday at 8 p.m. from Hawkins Field … The set will mark the first meeting against the Tigers at The Hawk since March 14-15, 2014.
