I like and subscribe to the Post, but this article is pure hyperbole and clickbait. How can you call a football game that hasn't been played yet, and only one-third of the way through the season, "the sorriest college football game of 2021"?

For all we know, it may be an epic, with the lead changing often or a dramatic comeback, filled with heroics and daring. Simply absurd to call a football game that hasn't been played "the sorriest."

Not sure how one defines the “sorriest” game… but a game in which one team is losing 35-0 at the end of the first quarter is pretty sorry.

What this article and such thinking forget is that every player out there is somebody’s loved one, someone’s son or brother or grandchild or nephew. All these players want to win and perform well (or at least almost all of them). They don’t want to be objects of ridicule.

It’s easy to be dismissive but these players have worked hard and long to be collegiate athletes. They deserve our respect.

I have always wonder how many of the most vocal critics (in any forum) of any team played organized sports after 6th grade, if ever. And that goes for the most vocal critics here as well.

Good question, Seadog: admittedly my varsity sport at Vanderbilt was tennis, but I learned how much time and focus it took away from studying and partying and for the big time sports of football and basketball: those guys gave it all. It is quite the commitment to compete in the SEC at Vanderbilt, and my hat is off to all the girls and boys who do, and the coaches who sign up to help them. That, I guess, is why I am labeled a sunshine pumper. I respect and believe in these folks.

It was an EPIC game.
