Re: Hawaii Week Depth Chart
Almost no surprises at all in this, if you've been following along with the daily press conferences... only two OR's in the whole thing... but among the two-deep (in some cases three-deep) I count...
SEVEN true freshmen...
THREE guys who have joined the team from the transfer portal (one who will start, Aeneas DiCosmo, and one who will probably start, Jason Borcila)...
and FIVE guys who are walk-ons.
This is all a tribute to the recruiting and player development efforts of GM Barton Simmons.

Re: Hawaii Week Depth Chart
It's also different this season that the depth chart includes an "F" position (flanker) in addition to a "TE" position. Justin Ball and true freshman Kamrean Johnson are the tight ends, and Logan Kyle and Chris Boyle are the flankers.
I doubt that this represents a change in offensive philosophy from last year. Last year Ben Bresnahan and Gavin Schoenwald were often in the game together in power formations, though they were listed as the Nos. 1 & 2 tight ends. Under this year's system, Schoenwald would probably be listed as the "F" back.

I noticed Daevion Davis isn't on the depth chart. Any idea what's up?

Re: Hawaii Week Depth Chart released
Holy cow, would you look at the depth on the defensive line... the coaches have listed 11 players for the four DL positions, indicating they feel good about where all 11 of these players are.
And those 11 do not include Christian James, a senior starter from last year who is going to have to sit out at least the first few games with an injury. This is the way it's supposed to work, folks. This is the way the prominent programs do it.
Now, having enough bodies is not the same thing as having dominant players... only time will tell whether the pass rush is improved and the run-stuffing capability is improved. But no one should be able to say anymore that Vandy lacks quality depth on either one of its lines.

Looks like Hayball is back and that is great news.
And I was wondering about Davieon Davis as well.

Re: Hawaii Week Depth Chart released
In the press conference, Lea mentioned that Davis is still suffering from the after-effects of a longtime injury... I think it's the same one that kept him out most of last season.

Re: Hawaii Week Depth Chart released
Lea said that he doesn't expect Vandy will stray too far from "11 personnel" this season... that's one RB, one TE in the formation; in other words, three WRs on most plays. And he said they could be using 4 WRs sometimes.
If so, that's a big change from the last two seasons and probably signals a more wide-open offense (see my Predictions post). For the last two seasons, as I recall, Vandy pretty much always opened the game with two TEs, almost always showing "12 personnel" on first down as well as third-and-short.

Re: Hawaii Week Depth Chart released
Coach said he’s week to week right now. No further information I could find.
