Chase Burns in the portal

Anyone hear about a possible transfer to VU for Chase Burns?

There are rumors all around. Thought there was already a thread on this. Maybe not... i couldn't find 1. There are/were on the other 2 boards.

Burns noted he had come to the CWS as a Vandy fan years ago in an interview. There are strong rumors about this.

He is a truly great pitcher. I’m almost afraid to hope. This would be a massive pickup.

The rumors and guesses I’ve seen on the internet mostly point to LSU as the most likely landing spot. Vandy second most likely. It certainly would be a huge get if it goes our way.

I am just glad he is leaving UT because he is a good pitcher and that loss hurts their team. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but on the surface, this appears to be a rather surprising move. I heard Vitello say that they have known about this for a while (not sure how long that is), but the only thing that might make sense from a baseball standpoint is that Burns wants to be a starter, and perhaps Vitello didn't agree with that.

Not sure why he would go to TCU. If Vanderbilt was to pick up only one more transfer, I would prefer Cannon Peebles, the freshman catcher from NC State. I think we could use more help on the offensive side, especially at the catcher and the outfield positions.

His stats were much better as a reliever than a starter this season so I can see why the Vols left him there. Corbin doesn't seem like the kind of guy that will promise a starting rotation spot so if that is what Burns wants, may not get it here.

Last year in an interview he said he never wanted to go to Vanderbilt; implied he really disliked the place.

A UT fan I work with said he saw on the internet (so it MUST be true) that Vandy has offered him a 6-fgure NIL deal and he was all set to come but then UT matched it. I politely suggested that whoever put that out there must have been on hallucinogenic drugs.

Maybe a little truth to the last post, at least on the UT side. My thinking is that he is using the portal as a "ploy" to get more NIL bucks from someone in Vile Nation. My guess is that he gets it and stays at UT. (sort of like the Tyrin Lawrence situation with our men's basketball)

I am not sure that Peebles is the next Tommy White. Fifteen of his RBIs came in two games against NJIT and Davidson. Best I can tell, looks like he was used more as a DH than catcher. That said, of course he looks like a good player, time will tell how good.
