Re: Tasos Kamateros
Really good get - he is not that tall, but has good size, rebounded very well for a PF and has proven to be a good 3 pt shooter. Good stretch 4 option to go along with Smith and is just a 1 year player, so no long term log jam. He is not an athlete, so I'm not sure how well his post moves will translate in the SEC, but he has good size and can shoot, which generally works everywhere.
This is absolutely the right way to approach the portal - the three guys we have gone and grabbed are excellent replacements for Thomas, QMB and Stute. It would not surprise me if they were much more efficient than the players they are replacing.
If we can get Lawrence back I think we are a sure fire tournament team. Lots talent, enough experience and good options all around. Very good news!

Re: Tasos Kamateros
Don’t let the high outside shooting percentage fool you, I’ve read he’s also a physical player. This is a great fit for us. Tyrin should be coming back any day now to fill the final spot.

Great pick up.
FWIW, Robbie Weinstein CB’d Lawrence to return to VU.
This would be a solid roster.

Misc:
Has played in exactly 100 college basketball games. Started 80 of his 100 games. Team won over 20 games 3 times including a 26 win season. Beat BYU, very close losses to UCLA and Baylor.

Re: Tasos Kamateros
Those losses against UCLA and Baylor occurred before he was on the team. USD has been pretty good overall but definitely struggled last season. 26 win season was in 2018, Kamateros' first season was in 2020. Last season they were 12-19 under a new head coach.MrMemorial wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 6:57 pm Misc:

Re: Tasos Kamateros
He has a very solid frame, but he isn't a player with a lot of bounce in his game - a very strong contrast to Lubin, who is springy and athletic, Kamateros has a nice shot and will run pick and pop plays while Lubin will roll the basket. I would guess that he is a good change of pace off the bench, but gives us another shooter to go along with Taylor. I do wonder how his post game will translate against good shot blocker and the better athletes in our league. At the very least he gives us a big body who can shoot and provide 5 fouls. His stats suggest he should be ready to play however.

Re: Tasos Kamateros
Should be a good player for us. I like the 2-pt and 3-pt shooting percentages.
But he is not a shot blocker: 9 blocked shots last season in 31 games averaging about 28 mpg.
Edit: The “1.7” Minoadoc listed in Tasos’ stats line was for Assists. He was also charged with 1.7 Turnovers per game. Coulda been that.

Re: Tasos Kamateros
Nice pick-up! He can hit the three but also has some nice inside moves!

Re: Tasos Kamateros
Earlier I heard a podcast guest opining that the key for lower conference players transitioning to the SEC was whether they had a larger or smaller role on the new team.
Kind of rang true. We've seen guys before who were really good contributors as the third or fourth scoring option, but fell flat when they're asked to carry the team. The difference between creating your own 3 point shot with the other team's best defender in your face, vs being wide open for a three when the guy defending you had to go help contain your teammate.
