Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
But why? For a better grad program? (better suited to what he wants to do?)

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
I always wonder how players feel when those that they’re stuck behind decide to transfer too. Stute and now Wright gone could’ve given Dia an opportunity.

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
So we’re looking at:
Ansong gone
Robbins gone
Shelby gone
Dia gone
Stute gone
Wright gone
Lawrence maintaining eligibility (hopefully back for us)
With three incoming freshmen

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
Granted, guys can withdraw from the portal if they choose to do so. Don't grad schools typically begin sending acceptance letters around the end of March? We could possibly see Wright return if he was waiting on acceptance to a VU program and wanted to open his options, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.
Let's hope Stack can work some magic in the portal like he did with Robbins, Manjon, and Chatman. The roster certainly needs it now.

I believe Jordan’s interest is sports management. If so, no VU grad program would be available to him. By using his Covid year he should be able to get a scholarship to pay for his grad year.

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
Wish him the best. He was a hellofa ball player and Vandy Man.
Wonder if he thought about getting a VU MBA, not sure how sports management is all that different from other types…who knows maybe he’s going somewhere with a higher rated MBA program.
He certainly leaves big shoes to fill. All we can do is wait and see….

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
I'm not surprised. He has nothing left to prove here. Stack was tough on him and some emotional moments when Jordan came through. But he's had a long career here. That's why I was pounding play the youngsters earlier and all season. If by some miracle Lawrence gets good draft feedback, we have bare cupboards now.
Think of the players we have lost with eligibility and it will make your head spin. Add a few to this year's team and we are probably still playing in March.

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
I hate this !!!! Without Jordan, the portal better produce something as next year's roster looks very weak. Four guys with eligibility gone; dear Lord hope Tyrin returns.
Anyone with numbers as to portal losses from other SEC schools ?

Prior to Covid, this wouldn't have even been a thing. No one had five years of full season eligibility. I'll be glad to see it go.

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
Now you know why all the old school coaches are retiring. You just don't know who your team is going to be next season vs this season. It's a free agency with no cap and no repercussions for anyone. Go where you want, do what you want. No penalties for anything, do as you please. It's a free for all every season now.

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
I've decided to embrace the transfer portal.
Vandy should have say $83.6K of NIL cap space available to sign what's his name - the Junior out of Toledo averaging 9.6 pts per game (made it up in case you couldn't tell) and sponsored by Dr. Pepper but I hear he is also considering Oscar Meyer hotdogs and Gold's Gym as official sponsors. His Pepper contract may require him to wear a brown headband and one brown sock with the word 'Pepper' visible on each shoe. Perhaps the Ford dealership can lease him a vehicle during his 8 month stay in Nashville and we should welcome him with open arms as the last name is velcroed on his jersey for easy removal. Welcome to college basketball.

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
Sadly, this is the new normal in college ball. We are losing ... 2 productive starters, 1 starter that had fallen out of favor, and 3 guys that didn't play much.
We are gaining 3 freshman, the expected improvement from Lewis, Smith, and Dort and ... whatever the portal brings.
Anymore, winning the portal is perhaps more important that freshman recruiting. Doing that got a lot tougher with Wright leaving, but still not impossible.

I am really sorry to see this. Did he give us a farewell post to thank everyone,? It is our loss and hope it is to his gain.

I’m still optimistic if Lawrence does return.mathguy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 7:21 pmSadly, this is the new normal in college ball. We are losing ... 2 productive starters, 1 starter that had fallen out of favor, and 3 guys that didn't play much.

Re: Jordan Wright in the transfer portal
100%. And, the coach has to be able to mold a new group of players into a cohesive productive team each year. It has some coaching similarities to the coaches that recruited the one and done players each yet except the coaches had the power and the one and done players were typically considered elite. Now the players possess varying levels of talent and they have power to leave and find new homes at will. {sigh}Vandy187187 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 7:09 pm Now you know why all the old school coaches are retiring.
