SEC dominates CWS for last 11 years

Post by VanDSIRROM »

This year (and some prior years) we've seen how the SEC has killed each other off getting to the CWS finals.

Counting this year (2018) and the last ten (10) years (2008 thru 2017), 12 of the 22 teams competing in the CWS finals have been SEC teams. That's 55% SEC against every other conference. And that's after killing each other off in the Regionals & Super Regionals.

Here's the teams playing in the finals for the past 11 seasons:
2018 AR vs.Oregon St.; 2017 FL vs. LSU; 2016 Coastal Carolina vs. AZ; 2015 VU vs. VA; 2014 VU vs. VA; 2013 Miss St. vs UCLA; 2012 SC vs. AZ; 2011 SC vs FL;
2010 SC vs. UCLA; 2009 LSU vs. TX; 2008 GA vs. Fresno St.

Move over SEC football, there's another game in town! :D :D :D :D

And others want to claim there is an SEC bias. Nope, we've earned it.

Arkansas may have just given away this year's CWS.

Yep, 3 guys could have caught that foul pop for out #3 and the national title, but they let it fall between them. Not an easy catch by any means, but definitely catchable. If they lose tomorrow, that play will haunt them for a long time.

Very tough luck. Hope they can forget it and win tomorrow.

Now that the CWS is over, Arkansas sure looked like the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series. Both had a pretty routine play to end the series that was botched, and both ended up losing that game and the following game to lose the whole thing.

That has got to be one of the worst ways to lose.

That's a great analogy.

I feel really badly for Arkansas. There was likely no way they were coming back from what happened in Game 2, and it showed last night. They had been an offensive juggernaut all season and couldn't even scratch one run across.

Please bear in mind that the Mets/Sox game was tied at the time of Buckner's gaffe.

And that even if Buckner makes a clean play, there are no guarantees he--with his chronically injured 36-year-old legs--beats a Mookie Wilson (he of the 300+ career stolen bases) who is flying to first base, though it's debatable whether Wilson would have scored even if Mookie had reached safely.

Basically, best case scenario for Boston if Buckner fields it cleanly: The game goes to extras.

I don't mean to suggest the two plays are in no way analogous. Hell, that was the first play I thought off too. The stage that Arkansas was on was clearly not as big as a World Series but as far as the implications for the game itself were concerned, that Bermuda Triangle they created was worse.
